Dear god, why is everyone griping over the windows 8 lack of apps? Does anyone realize you can still install and run PROGRAMS? They still make those things you know. Unless you have RT then you are screwed.

Windows 8 is just like Windows 7 only smarter, faster and, more secure.
The same programs that worked on Windows 95,98,2000,ME, XP, Vista and Windows 7 also work on windows 8 and through 1/31/2013 you can still get the Pro version of Windows 8 as a download directly from Microsoft for less than $40.00.
What are you waiting for ?

So far, about 40 million people - but apparently, you are not one of them ;)

Nice article, Dan Scharff. More of the same would be great.

Windows 8 requires a readjustment in one's thinking but, once explored and tinkered with, it's probably the best OS that Microsoft has yet come up with!
Using my Desktop, I can set things up in almost exactly the same way as Windows 7, for when I'm feeling nostalgic. All my software still works, with the exception of Corel PaintShop Photo Pro. I haven't given up on that yet, but there are many excellent free apps that will do just about as good a job. Microsoft's apps store appears to be growing in selection daily and, as noted in a previous comment, one can still install and run programs! The Metro set up can be readily organized to suite one's work habits and, I've found, that I'm now using it evermore frequently. Microsoft has finally done something right and I hope that, rather than working on a replacement, they improve and update what we now have.
