Facing tough times is nothing new to Atari, it almost went belly up in 1974 due to horrendously poor management that was put into place... Atari has had quite a rollercoaster existence, if you want to know more about Atari from its beginnings you should head over to amazon and look up - Atari Inc Business is Fun, its a new book that details from the inside, just how the cornerstone of the video game industry got off the ground and how it crash horrendously and then was sold and split up in 1984... its a great read, well worth picking up.

Anyone else pick up on the picture showing a 2600 console, but the game on-screen is the 5200 version of Pac-Man?

"Since 2010, Atari shifted its business model from retail game titles to digital games for iOS and Android."

I think bad management is bad back again at Atari...

I still own a working 2600 (original with the wood trim) and about 40 games. I still get the urge to play some of them every now and then. Why isn't Atari re-releasing the classics, or making newer versions for today?

Have you see the Atari Flashback 4?

Not the 4, but I've seen the older models. When I mean re-release I meant to release the games as downloadable content on other game systems, but with improved graphics. Or release the entire Atari collection on one disc.

Not surprised one bit to hear this news. How did they expect to survive when all they did in the past 10 years is produce those terrible flashback systems.

Had a Sears licensed version of the Atari VCS. Kept in until Coleco came out with the 2600 adapter for the Colecovision. Still have the Colecovision and occasionally pull it out. Recently pickup up a slew of 2600 carts for $.99 each at a used video game store. Another store in my area has a VCS for sale with the Starpath (Arcadia) Supercharger which increased the 2600's memory and allowed for multi-load games via cassette tape.
Worst Atari 2600 game experience Basic Programming -not enough character space to do anything meaningful
Best Atari 2600 game experience Space Invaders and Mission Command bother of which supplied game play very similar to their arcade ancestors.
