Hello People: I just bought a refurbished Dell Latitude D630 cheap ($210) and want to stress test it to make sure its all there and working well before the 90 day warranty is up. Is anyone aware of any (freeware) programs that will run a burn-in testing regimen that'll stress test (not destroy) an older laptop? Or maybe even one designed for desktops that I can use on a laptop?

Thanks in advance for your help.

OCCT (CPU and/or GPU) or Prime95 will torture it. (CPU only)

LiveBrianD: Thanks for your post / suggestion. I ran OCCT and got some awesome test results....maxed out the CPU @ 83° C! Ran the test for 45 minutes. Have entered a discussion about the results at the OCCT forum. Also found an app at Softpedia, "IntelBurnTest", which is based on the Linpac test process (whatever that is) - it runs a test in about 15 to 30 minutes depending on how many cycles you select (versus multiple hours for the full Linpac cycle).

Again, thanks for the help.

Oh yeah, I forgot about that one. (keep in mind that IntelBurnTest is known to be particularly harsh, and a good tool for testing overclocks - Prime95 isn't the best for that anymore)

LiveBrianD: In searching using dogpile.com, I came across the following site / article: http://www.hardwarea...nt/topic/74127/ . It lists several programs, many of which are freeware, including Hotcpu; FurMark; and GPU-Z.

FurMark is a benchmark (this will work), but GPU-Z is a system information tool. (that won't help you with stress testing)

For anyone who might view this post in the future, I've written a short article on burn-in testing based on my experiences on this topic. Its at dotTech.org, at this link: http://dottech.org/9...urn-in-testing/

Hope it helps you out (whoever you are!).
