Hi everyone, new here.

GPU: http://www.newegg.co...N82E16814130841
RAM: http://www.newegg.co...N82E16820231314
HDD: http://www.newegg.co...N82E16822148767
Power Supply: http://www.newegg.co...N82E16817139005

For the same money, you would be better off with an Ivy Bridge CPU. I suggest getting, say, a i5 3570K, a slightly cheaper motherboard (you will need to change this anyway), and a MUCH cheaper DVD drive. How about this drive, for instance? http://www.newegg.co...N82E16827151256 (it's a burner too, unlike the HP you mentioned)

Also, that PSU is good, but overkill for that machine.

try this board here:
ASUS P8Z77-V LE LGA
with the Intel i5 3330
and this Samsung DVD drive.

That Intel chip will destroy the AMD series processors. There isn't any overclocking headroom to speak of, but at 3.2Ghz, it is quite fast.

Thanks for the suggestions!

Do either of you guys have any good website where I can learn about computer parts, how to put them together, and how to figure out if they're all compatible with each other? I still feel a bit swamped and overwhelmed when looking at the specifications of each part.

I usually just frequent sites like Anandtech, and Tomshardware. Reading the reviews for a particular chip, will also tell you the motherboard types and the various features.

Hi and welcome to the forums. I guess it can be a bit daunting, and there has been some good input in where to go to just read what others are saying on various things. Having said that, I noticed the case you chose was out of stock. You could save $20 and go with this one:
http://www.newegg.co...N82E16811119233

I used this and really like it. It is easy to work in and has very good airflow. I do have a few fans installed though. 1 120 mm exhaust Fan at the rear and two in the top, plus a 200 mm intake fan in the front.

A great place to get valuable information is the manufactures website.
Being you have an idea of a cpu type and motherboard, go to the motherboard manufactures website.

There you'll get features and qualifying vendors lists for parts they successfully tested compatible.
That doesn't mean that tested parts are the only ones that will work fine with the board, it means they are tested and proved to work fine with the board.

Hi, Rommel makes a good point in that the Motherboard is the key. As long as everything is compatible with the motherboard, you will be in good shape.
