This is what is wrong with America nowadays, instead of our USA government tackling on the real problems in our country they are worried about someone unlocking their phone. Seriously?? $500,000 fine and five years for a first offense?? There are much more worse criminals out there and these maniacs that create these stupid laws are worried about unlocked phones. Sounds to me like the big cell phone company providers paid someone off in D.C.

No doubt. How about that doctor that killed his wife and was sentenced to 5 years in prison. Same as a phone unlocker? Seriously?
Our government is bought and paid for by the big corporations. I don't mind them being rich, I just mind that I cannot afford my own senator.

Since the supposed rationale is that the firmware in the phone is not technically "our property", I propose we charge them a $500,000 fine and five years in prison if they don't remove it on demand (from the rest of the device which we DO own). Of course this is provided we have fulfilled our contract. The new carrier could then provide us with the right firmware.

Your point?
To me that makes the situation worse: some unelected, unaccountable jerk makes laws?
That's go to be even worse than liberals!
To disagree without being disagreeable is the art of debate. Simply because one has a strong opinion, it does not necessarily make an alternative opinion less valid.
