And a quarter pounder isn't a 1/4 of a pound after it's cooked, it's not false advertising. I am sick of all the apple fan boys touting the new iPad with 128gb of storage and comparing it to the surface pro.

The iPad is a big iPhone that can't make calls, the surface has a file system, can share millions of applications people are already used to, has an card slot to add more storage and it NOT tied to the tit of the apple store, it runs millions of programs that we are already used to.

I currently have an iPad & an iPhone, the iPad is going on eBay the day I get the surface. It's good for Facebook & surfing the net, but no file system just cripples it for any power of business user. I have been trying to find an email app that would let me search my multiple exchange & gmail accounts in one place that includes deleted emails & all other folders with a single search. None of them work because I'm tied to the apple store and the fact that apple locks down their API because they think they know best & their built in programs are perfect. Their PDF programs is also garbage, the fancy newsstand app won't accept any PDF with the 256 bit security standard that's been out for over 2 1/2 years.

Bye Bye iPad, hello surface pro.

Much to do about nothing. Windows 8 OS take up 20 gigs and what is essentially a back up takes another 21 gigs. Microsoft will provide instructions on how to move the backup 21 gigs to a thumb drive or a SD card. After moving the backup to an external drive there will be over 100 gigs of storage.

I don't know about the Pro, but expanding the memory capacity of the regular Surface into space that is usable is not as easy as sliding the memory card into the slot. Lots has to be done for your "libraries" to be able to use it. As for advertised space vs usable space, better labelling would help but honestly, should we be that surprised that a full operating system doesn't consume some space? Granted, 40GB is getting extreme. The market is at a big fork in the road at the moment, trying to figure out where the OS needs to be. Apple has decided that their tablet OS and their main computer OS can be different. Microsoft wants to give the consumer a choice for OS on devices. I'm happy to have the choice to use whatever device and OS suites my particular needs. Thank goodness for competition.

This article is misleading. The Surface Pro OS only takes up 20 gigs. However, there is another 20 gigs taken up by backup, which can be moved to external SD or thumb drive. Microsoft is going to supply instructions on how to move the 20 gigs to an external device..

All Tech reviewers claims of Surface Pro reduce storage is matter of making a mountain out of a mole hill:

Because Microsoft has a handy little tool on the surface that allows you to move the recovery partition to a usb drive. During the process it will prompt if you want to delete the partition and recover the space. Worked great and took about 10 minutes!

Once you actually install something you want to use, like Office, acrobat and photoshop, you will have literally no space left. I say this because we just bought two new notebooks, and they came with more than 60GB taken by the preinstalled software.
