Hello everyone ill cut to the case and flat out say I'm new to anything of building a custom PC. I need your help on picking the right parts for the custom pc.

first I need to explain to my parents of how a custom PC is better than buying an in store computer.

okay not that has been stated I'm looking for a high quality gaming pc that runs smooth and fast and also with video editing with HD rendering of course haha.

my budget Max maybe is $1500. I'm looking for nice m monitor as well. like I said I'm pretty new to PCs so I don't really know what all has to be inside the custom built PCI'm looking for the best parts possible. starting from the case haha. also something about liquid cooling system/fans?

thanks everybody that will help me out and that will explain things to me. Im pretty well with tech stuff, this is also a learning phase for me too so thank you again and if it helps im 18 years old.

Welcome to PC World forums. I'm sure if you peruse the forums here you'll get many tips of what might be needed to make a good unit, but the actual assembly is not for a beginner. Building your own is far more that putting the parts together. Loading the OS after getting past compatablity issues will leave most beginners with a box of parts shoved in the corner of the closet. Having a static safe assembly area is beyond most users skills but essential for successful start up.

Here's a thought:
LG 24X DVD Burner - Bare Drive Black SATA Model GH24NS95 - OEM $18
COOLER MASTER CM Storm Scout 2 SGC-2100-KWN1 All Midnight Black Appearance: Polymer, Coated Steel Mesh and Body ATX Mid Tower ... $80
Western Digital WD Blue WD10EZEX 1TB 7200 RPM SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive -Bare Drive $85
SAPPHIRE 100352-2L Radeon HD 7950 3GB 384-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 3.0 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFireX Support Video Card $300
CORSAIR Enthusiast Series TX650 V2 650W ATX12V v2.31/ EPS12V v2.92 80 PLUS BRONZE Certified Active PFC High Performance Power ... $90
G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory Model F3-12800CL7D-8GBXM $70
GIGABYTE GA-Z77X-D3H LGA 1155 Intel Z77 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard $145
Intel Core i5-3570K Ivy Bridge 3.4GHz (3.8GHz Turbo) LGA 1155 77W Quad-Core Desktop Processor Intel HD Graphics 4000 BX80637I53570K $230
Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 64-bit - OEM $100 (note: personally I prefer 7, but others prefer 8. It's up to you - I suggest trying 8 in a store to help you decide. They're the same price.)
GELID Solutions Tranquillo CC-TranQ-01-A 120mm Hydro Dynamic CPU Cooler $50
Crucial M4 CT128M4SSD2 2.5" 128GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) $120

That's $1287.89 (with $55 in rebates). For the monitor, I suggest the hp 2511x - I have it and have been happy with it. (around $200-250)

Edit: mjd, FWIW, I assembled my PC when I was 13, and it hasn't blown up yet. (let's hope that doesn't change!) Loading the OS isn't difficult - install it, install the drivers, and let Windows Update run. For the OP: I suggest looking up guides on how to do this. If you know how to use a screwdriver and don't try to force anything in the wrong way, you should be fine.

I suggest googling for articles on PC building, primarily so you can see the illustrations. I know PCWorld has done several articles over the years, as has MaximumPC. The illustrations will go a long way in helping you actually see what components look like as they're going together, and the articles give useful tips about things like the best way to use thermal paste on a processor, etc. Here are some examples:

http://www.pcworld.c...-under-500.html
http://www.maximumpc...s_bulldozer_cpu

When I built my first box in '95 googling didn't exist and I'd never seen it done before, and I installed the motherboard without the standoffs. I was lucky that I didn't short out the board. Fortunately the fellow who was "mentoring" me came by and saw what I'd done and we corrected it in time. The moral of this story is: If you have an experienced friend around your first build will go much better. :D

FYI, the board has some USB 3.0 headers, which you won't be able to use with that. (It has 2.0 ones as well though.) The Antec 300 two has USB 3 on the front, though it was out of stock the last time I checked.

Ummmm, I am using one and My MOBO has 3.0 USB headers, but also has two 3.0 USB ports. DO NOT CONFUSE THE TWO.

Look at the specs for the board:
Rear Panel Ports: 2 x USB 2.0 + 6 x USB 3.0
Internal I/O Connectors: 2 x USB 3.0 + 4 x USB 2.0

On the 912:
Front Ports: 2 x USB 2.0, 1 x Audio, 1 x Speakers

That's what I'm talking about - the case only has USB 2.0 headers, but you have 3.0 headers on the board. Sure, you can just use the 2.0 headers, but you won't get the extra speed with compatible devices. It's not a dealbreaker, but it is something to keep in mind.

Problem solved, use this board instead. It is a tad cheaper and includes a front panel USB 3.0 header.

No, the ASUS has USB 3.0 headers - it's the CASE coastie mentioned that doesn't.

The motherboard mentioned comes with a 3.5" drive bay adapter with 3.0 ports. It can be used in ANY case to provide USB up front.

Did you bother looking at what you were commenting on?

Oh, a 3.5" adapter - when you said headers, I assumed it only had the usual headers. Nvm...

I would get rid of the HDD cooler, change the DVD-ROM for a burner (same price), and maybe get rid of the VGA cooler and can controller. Also, I would definitely get a better PSU, like a Corsair, Seasonic, Antec, etc. (for instance, a TX650 is enough)

One last thing - it might be better to get a Samsung SSD or one with a Marvell one - Sandforce ones tend to have compatibility problems, and had a reputation for reliability issues.
