Not before time!
But I expect the manufacturers will continue as long as possible, passing on the cost of obsolete inventory - just like they did with the old floppy.
Not saying optical is obsolete - just unnecessary as a "built-in" unit.
USB optical works fine - on the rare (and getting rarer) occasions one is needed.
To disagree without being disagreeable is the art of debate. Simply because one has a strong opinion, it does not necessarily make an alternative opinion less valid.
