Looks promising. I figure that my next machine will probably be a laptop (I'm not sure I want to be taking a desktop to college), and having better integrated video options (aside from getting a bulky gaming laptop with a discrete GPU) would be cool.

Yep. It would seem that a lappy with a Haswell, might be just fine. No, I don't think you want to be lugging a desktop to college. My Nephew just started at the University of Alabama this year and just took his Laptop, course his Desktop is looooooong in the tooth.

I'm planning to stick with what I have for now - I don't think it'll get all that outdated 1.5 years from now. The only thing I've been pondering is that I'll probably bring an external monitor with me as well (dual high-res monitors can be really helpful while coding - using the 1440x900 ones at school is painful for that) - doubly important when I don't want too big of a laptop, so it's more portable. On a 14" one, I don't want to go higher than 1600x900 (with the exception of scaling), for the sake of not having tiny text. (I'm definitely in the "1366x768 sucks" crowd on anything bigger than ~13". ) I'll probably use this as an excuse to get an SSD as well (durability).

I had my 15.6 '' Lappy when I was in the hospital. Got him and can't connect to the router and need to work on that. Have a LOT of WiFi stuff listed as well as one printer that is unknown. It went missing right after my sister had brought it over to me. I remember a Nurse with it and walking out and saying bye. My Cell phone and it's Charger was in the bag as well. It was finally found, but didn't get online until I was transferred to the other Hospital for rehab. Used my phone a couple of times on FB & Twitter.

Both the desktop that I built in Sept. '11 and the Lappy that was my Christmas present to myself in Dec. '11 have both done fine. I ran Oblivion on the lappy ( i3 2100 and HD3000 ) and it did fine. Did upgrade the memory some to 8 gb and a bit speedier ). Haven't done anything with the Desktop since I installed the GTX680 card.

Yes, you are saying absolutely right that Intel Haswell graphics is fantastic. It is the successor to the Ivy Bridge architecture. It offers great performance.
