Need Help Installing Graphics Card (motherboard Smoking)

Hello Everyone,

I've got some Questions about installing my Nvidia Geforce 550 TI.
I recently bought a refurbished Nvidia Geforce 550 TI graphics card but it didn't come with anything except the card itself. What cable(s) do I need to install it with my 600W ocz power supply?

I actually bought 2 different cables from amazon and tried to install it. However, my motherboard started smoking (came from a silver cylinder shaped tiny thing) so I immediately turned it off and went back to the stock graphics card.
*note I did have high performance enabled on power options* Also I never overclocked anything.

My Processor: Inter Core i5-3570k cpu @ 3.4ghz
Ram: 16GB
64bit OS windows 7
using stock graphics card before this geforce one I just bought.

If anyone could help it would be greatly appreciated!!

i'd really like to know What caused the smoking?
How exactly should it be installed (be as specific as possible please).
I know it goes into the PCI express slot (pressed in firmly) then you use the white adapter with the blue monitor cable to go into the card. Then there is a 2nd slot on the gfx card that you'd plug into the 600w battery supply; however, that's main the part i'm having trouble with it seems.

Please help!

Smoke indicates you are too late. That is irreparable damage. Very likely a capacitor on the motherboard that handles power to the video card. There is a 6 pin power connector on the video card, the power supply should have a connector that fits perfectly in there (6 pin). Sounds like you drew the full power from the motherboard instead...

You can try getting the power plugged in, but expect things not to work at this stage (or rather, not work correctly).

Inside the PC? Nothing.
As Waldojim mentioned, your PSU should have a 6 pin power connector that is keyed to only fit one way.
Nothing extra to buy.

Your monitor should have the cable you need outside the PC.

The motherboard did smoke for a very short second but I turned it off immediately. Everything is working on the computer that I know of, nothing changed since then.

I did figure out some things now.

I do have the correct cable (found it in my asus box) and I plugged it from the power supply to the graphics card and now the graphics cards fan is spinning (woo!!).

However, I took the white adapter and the blue monitor cable and plugged it into the graphics card.

I then turn on my computer and the monitor won't work, it stays black.

I know there is no compatibility issues.

I also know 600W is more than enough power as I don't even overclock and there are 2 pci slots that the card fits into.

I am also making sure i'm pressing the graphics card in very firmly as well.

I also tried both PCI slots as well as both slots on the side of the graphics card just to make sure.

Anyone have any suggestions as to what could be the problem?

Also, I did check everything and the smoking didn't seem to cause any problems to any parts luckily.
