New Hdd Problem

rite guys this maybe a newbie prob but just bought a 1tb1 hdd to go in my docking station and my windows 8 does not even say its there ive even tried using a jumper on it and still no luck but in the past my windows 7 just recognised any hdd i put in my docking station and it has kinda got me a little confused.com

Hit Start+R, diskmgmt.msc
If prompted to initialize the drive, do so. Then, format it.
