If it's a useless file, and nothing important about it, then it goes into the recycle bin. If it has something important, then it gets shredded with a 10 cycle shred :D

Everything I don't want goes in the Recycle Bin. Then at the end of the session I run a disc cleaning utility to clear cache, cookies, history, prefetch, recycle bin etc. At bedtime I alternate between avast! anti-virus "boot-time" scan, AVG, SuperAntiSpyware or Spbot S&D malware scans, or clean disc free space with a File Shredder set to Guttman algorithm of 35 passes (paranoid after reading about a nasty worm that can sneak in from a USB flash and hide as a deleted file.) I also clear System Restore before scanning, and create a new restore point the next day. KW

Why are you cleaning the prefetch folder? Doing so cripples your Windows load and all your application load times: XP Myths

No, I don't even bother. I use the recycle bin for everything. :D
