Ok, rather than keeping on hijacking other threads with questions regarding LFS, I decided to start a new one.

As it is, I am currently attempting to build a copy of LFS to an 8GB USB drive. My binutils build time was under 1 minute real time (58seconds) and 1:40 user time. Not bad considering this is a laptop I should think. I am currently timing the GCC build to see how it goes.

But my first question that has come up; I don't have an "ideal" system to build from. All of my build tools are FAR newer than what is recommended, how much do you think this is going to affect the end result?

Well, I didn't make it very far... not sure if the issue is in the tools I am using, or something in the software I am trying to compile. In any event, building GLIBC results in a compiling error that it won't work past. This died quite quickly.

If the devlopers had produced a good live system from which to build, this would be a fun project. Trying to come up with a "perfect host" is going to make this a nightmare.

Ok, going to build a Gentoo base system to see if it helps. I am hoping that a known good 4.6.3 compiler on a stable build will make a difference.
