Hello,
I am interested in having a mentor to help me with Linux since I am new to it. I have Ubuntu 12.04 and I am currently in the process of dual booting it with win8. I know a little of java, like I can write basic programs. Command lines are mystifying though. I have had to use them to install a jar package on Ubuntu but I really did not understand what I was doing. I am very interested in learning more about how to successfully utilize the full potential of Linux. Also I am curious about networking. Please let me know if you are interested in working with me! Thanks,
Michelle

What are you hoping to gain? Most of us here have varied skill sets, but I don't know that we can just come up with a guide...

When you have questions, ask. We will try to help, and if we cannot help, direct you to people that can.
"There is a cult of ignorance in the United States, and there always has been. The strain of anti-intellectualism has been a constant thread winding its way through our political and cultural life, nurtured by the false notion that democracy means that 'my ignorance is just as good as your knowledge.'" -- Isaac Asimov

ask questions on here all you want (its encouraged) but what's your style of learning.
If you're at all like me and you prefer videos to articles, you could go to YouTube and search for something like 'linux tutorial'

waldojim is right. Any of us here with lots of experience can help.
A guide though would be hard for me personally to come up with.
You can always ask questions/.

Linux will be easy once you get the hang of it.''
