Hi,
I own a Dell N4010R laptop since 2 years. It has 3GB RAM and 1 GB ATI mobility 5470 Graphics.
Yesterday when my laptop was on, i inserted my pen drive in the usb port and the laptop suddenly went off. Now when i turn on the laptop, am getting a black screen. No POST. The power light is on and there is no HD activity. The DVD drive spins for a second and stops. The dell splash screen is no longer coming up.
When the laptop is in this state, i am able to charge my cellphone by plugging it into that USB port.
Is my motherboard gone? or RAM problem?
Thanks and Regards,
Manohar Prabhu

Hi, Manohar, and welcome to the forums.
If you're not getting POST, this is definitely a hardware problem. I very much doubt it's a screen problem, but just in case, you should try plugging in an external monitor.
Beyond that, it probably needs professional care. I'd take it to a professional.
One question for you: What about your data? Do you have backups, or are all of your files tied up in a dead PC?

Hmmmm..... I tried plugging in a monitor. Still same issue. I tried FN+D while powering up the system to start display diagnostics. I got flashing colors on screen. At least my video chip is all right.
Now i have given the system for servicing. Will update its status in a couple of days.
Unfortunately all my data is in the dead system, although nothing critical. Just some movies and stuff
