After Java Update Pictures Are Very Dark

I just ran the recent java upate and ever since pictures and even videos all across the board - on the Internet - everywhere are so dark, they're like shadows. What's this all about?

Another issue...whenever I click a link like from Adobe to update Flash or from a friend in an email, MS Word opens up with html code. What could be causing this?

That's strange... that said, try going into the video card settings (intel, nvidia, AMD, etc), and making sure the brightness and gamma are set correctly. (the brightness should be set moderately, and the gamma should be at 1.0)
