I have a Dell Latitude D630 with Windows XP Professional that I bought at a government auction. I was assured no sensitive data was still on the machine. I haven't been able to boot from external drive, USB, or CD/DVD. I have queried multiple web sites for possible work-around to no avail. Any solution short of replacing the hard-drive is welcome. Is it possible there is some sort of disk encryption software present? if so, how do i deal with this?

(1st) Is there a HD IN the laptop?

(2nd) If there IS a HD in the laptop, it's Guaranteed to be Wiped. You can NEVER boot from a Wiped (virgin) HD!!!!!

(3rd) There is NO encryption of any kind left on your laptop, after a NSA wipe.

Everything you've said, points to NO HD in your puter. Open up the laptop & LOOK!!!!

I'm using a Latitude C840 Laptop & will help you as much as I can.

Hi, Pandabear, and welcome to the PCW forums.

I'm a bit confused by your post. You say that you can't boot from CDs or external drives. Then you ask if you need to replace the hard drive.

Can you boot from the hard drive? And if you can, what operating system comes up?
