Well thought out list, thank you. I think this emphasizes the importance of separating your public and personal sides. For example I have 3 Twitter accounts. This one for my professional side, 1 for my home based business and 1 that is personal. Different people I follow on each and different things I tweet about. Do the same with Facebook by setting up pages for professional aspects.

Don't ever forget that anything you post on the Internet is "out there" for public consumption, regardless of what the social network site may say to the contrary. Social network sites are not in the "charity business," are profit-making enterprises, ergo, they "follow the money." So, if there is money to be made with your personal information, you know what will happen.

I still think that it's wise and safe to assume that everything you say/do/post on social media can/will be used against you. Don't post or comment anything you might regret, because it won't disappear just because you erase it. Rest assure, someone will copy/snapshot anything you post if it's controversial. Everyone is entitled to have their own opinion. Just keep it to yourself.

You have to be careful these days what you post and on which social networks. because anything can come back and haunt you later. That's why a lot of users are using FB and Twitter for very basic comments and connect with their friends and switching to anonymous sites like socialnumber.com to talk about politics, dating, drugs etc. so no one can know who you are..

Although I understand the attraction to something like socialnumber.com, I also know it’s not as private as you might think. I would treat it like any other site on the internet and assume that anything you put out there has the probability to be there forever.
