Well, since anything before Windows 2000 is no longer supported or updated by Microsoft, these systems are probably hopelessly compromised anyways.I like the new AdAware interface, and it definitely is a lot faster than before. Kudos....

Uprgrade is not free to previous customers. I was just told by the company that only owners of the most recent versions get the upgrade for free. I purchased the SE version two years ago and have to pay for an update.

Error prone. I installed it, got an error on first attempt by progrram to update itself, worked on second try. Ran the scan and the program then developed a fatal error during the correction phase, sent a report to LavaSoft and closed, losing the results of the scan. I then found it had trashed my ClipCache clipboard utility. I have gone back to the previous version of AdAware and will not be using the new version - ever. If they discontinue the old product I'll find something else.

I find the new version of Ad-Aware an improvement when you see the older versions.Nice updated interface along with a new scanning engine.I can recommend it to everyone.

[quote name='Pcfreakske2000']I find the new version of Ad-Aware an improvement when you see the older versions.> > > > Nice updated interface along with a new scanning engine.> > > > I can recommend it to everyone.> > > > Runs a background service "aawservice.exe" that eats up 20000k on the free version when its doing nothing as it has no resident shields, this service consumes more and more memory with each scan, seems like it may have a memory leak. The service can be set to manual, but cannot be disabled or Ad-Aware 2007 will not load. The Program is the same version whether you download paid or free (17mb) so you end up with a lot of junk you don't need if you just want an on demand scanner, and there are better paid for antispyware apps out there anyway imho.

A new version has just been released ( June 12) that supports win 98 in concert with what was stated on Lavasoft's website.

Disregard my earlier post, there is no update for win 98. My apologies.

I have been using this new program from lavasoft for a few days now. I do like the improvements. All spyware type programs must be updated.... The guys coming in chage... Us, 'surfers', need to be protected from the latest viruses; some of us need the freeware to get this done. I recommend this program from lavasoft to everyone.thanks PCWorld and LavasoftJoseph

You must have tested a different version than the buggy one I got! Once I got past the installer killing Spybot S&D's TeaTimer THREE TIMES, I found it to be slower and use more resources than the old version. UNINSTALLED!(Used three installers from two sites. First was for my own use. Two and three were for bug report to Spybot folks, makers of DEPENDABLE software)

A review like this is most useful if it compares the product with its main competitors. How does the new AdAware stack up against Webroot SpySweeper? Spybot S&D? Windows Defender?

Windows Defender? To be honest I use all of the above just to cover all my bases. I've got the latest edition of Spy Sweeper and the free versions of Spybot and AdAware. Although there's no 100% fail proof method to stopping spyware/adaware it's about as close as you can get with all the aforementioned apps.

Lovasoft 2007 Pro is a disaster on Windows 2000. It blows up all the time and leaves video and memory stacks in a shambles. I have to use control Alt. Del. to reboot. I always promised myself that I would never be one of the first and now I am paying the price. It deleted the 2006 version. I have contacted the company twice this week with no answer.

I have down loaded Ad-Aware 2007 free several times and it downloaded with no problems. The problem that I find is that it will not do a full scan. I had it doing a full scan for 3 hours before I stopped program. Other people are having the same problem. How can I correct this problem and send an e Mai to the people that wrote the program????

I've recommended Ad-Aware for years and years. Their products have a fine reputation. But, if you're buying, I strongly recommend checking out their support forum regarding what has happened to many people:http://www.lavasoftsupport.com/index.php?showtopic=10267Buyer beware. I'm saying that - because Lavasoft isn't saying it.

This upgrade was a joke. The compnay sent me an email offer for 1/2 price. I responded and bought the premium product. After I activated it, I found out it was not Vista compatible. They told me that after they had the product out for sale, they found problems. I asked them to extend my activation until after the Vista compatible product was out. They never responded.

First of all the free upgrade was only good for thirty (30) days. The 2007 version of Ad-aware is slow. It does not find and remaove all spyware. The real time protection caused freeze-ups and screen locks because it interfered with the internet connection.
Overall this program is terrible!!!!! Ad-aware used to be an excellent spyware removal tool. Ad-aware 2007 is a very poor update to the Ad-aware Professional SE that I went back to using.
