A firewall controls programs access to the internet and controls whether or not other computers can access your computer over the internet. You're best off installing a firewall as soon as you get a PC. I would recommend using either Zone Alarm or Comodo free firewall.Spyware is malicious programs that alter your computer settings, spy on your activities, and compromise your computer's security. There is no reason to remove your antivirus to have a firewall, as the two programs are completely different, and both very necessary.

they all serve different purposes. The first thing I do is install a firewall, that basically blocks things coming in and malware from contacting things outside of your computer. It's pretty much what it sounds like; a wall that protects you from the incoming attacks and anything inside getting out. Anti-spyware and Anti-virus scanners sweep the files on your computer looking for files that may damage your computer. All are recommended, there are plenty of free effective programs here are some links for you to look over:http://forum.networktechs.com/showthread.php?t=50http://forum.networktechs.com/showthread.php?t=49

Thank you COSMO and AURORAMANSON for your prompt reply to my question about spyware and firewall. The reason I asked is because my INTERNET SERVICE PROVIDER said that I would have to remove my ANTIVIRUS and SPYWARE from my computer before downloading and installing THEIR FIREWALL. I realize that I would have to remove my existing FIREWALL which is WINDOWS FIREWALL.Their FIREWALL is called FREEDOM FIREWALL by RAIDALPOINT SYSTEMS.Maybe I should just keep the WINDOWS FIREWALL.THANKS KENCON

{size:18px}:D Hi KenCon : Sounds like your Internet Service Provider ( who is it ? ) is trying to "entangle" you, so you will be less likely to switch to another . It is best to use an Internet Service Provider ONLY for connecting to the Internet and possibly email Service; it is NOT wise to use the other "Services" they "offer", since they are usually "stripped" down versions offered by the Original Vender . It is impossible to "remove" the Windows Firewall, since it is part of the Windows Operating System . When one get a 3rd party firewall, such as Zone Alarm, Sygate, Sunbelt Kerio, the practise is to then "disable" the "Windows Firewall" since it is unwise to have 2 Firewalls working on the same computer at the same time . The Windows Firewall is NOT that good; you should continue looking for a better one . A good starting point to learn about Good & FREE programs, etc is http://rcip.com/mitc...dieUpdated.html . Info on the Best antiSPYWARE/antiTROJAN programs is at Expert Eric Howes site at www.spywarewarrior.com/rogue_anti-spyware.htm#trustworthy
Hi,> > > > Can norton internet security find keyloggers? or I need to install an anti keylogger?> > > > Thank you.Hi dizisoft,Norton has a bad rep with being bloatware and a subpar scanner. While it may find most of the keyloggers, some may slip through the scan. Norton360 has an improved scanner, however it still is not as great as other anti-virus scanners. I would recommend trying out a free program such as Avast, or AVG Antivirus to see if they pick up anything. If they don't then your copy of Norton did a decent job. Please make sure that you have a way of re-installing Norton if you want to keep it after testing your computer with Avast or AVG. Make sure to copy the product key and keep it in a safe place in case you want to re-install Norton.

{size:18px}:D Hi Dizisoft : Keyloggers are BEST detected & "quarantined" by antiSPYWARE programs and since you have failed to tell us the SPECIFIC Name of your Operating System, I will recommend the highly compatible FREE version of SUPERAntiSpyware from www.superantispyware.com . Best NOT to expect Norton to protect very well against anything ; "Security Suite(s)" are the worse "form" of protection. Better to use the "layered" Approach, finding a very good product in each malware fighting category .
