Flash Ads Covering Content - How Annoying Can You Be?

Hi Scotty,I sent your thread to a few people for input and comment, but they haven't been able to get here yet, so let me clarify a little bit about why the ads are there.The ads on our site are contained in their own areas, and should not be overlapping content. However, when moused over, some ads do expand and cover the content. The easy way to avoid this is to avoid mousing over ads. We do also have a subscription pop-up. Although this is highly successful, we do realize that it annoys a lot of people, and have taken steps to reduce its size and frequency. You should only see this ad once every two weeks, provided you have not cleared your cookies in the meantime.The ads are on the site to keep content free. I am not a big fan of them either (I don't think any user is) but we do our best to have them not interfere with the content.If you have seen an ad that you have not moused over that is covering the content, please let me know the page you saw it on, which ad it was, as well as your OS, browser name and version. If there is a problem with one of the ads covering the content when it shouldn't we'd like to get it fixed ASAP.Kellie

Well, I don't work in accounting (and can barely add without aid of a calculator) so I can't really give a definitive answer to your question. But when you think about everything it takes to run PC World -- salaries,employee benefits, computer equipment, building rent and maintenance, server space, bandwidth costs.... I think it becomes apparent that subscriptions and newsstand sales alone cannot cover those costs. Unless we charged a heck of a lot more than we do now, in which case nobody would buy the magazine.
