Oh well, now that you brought up the date MPH, I just had to get this out of my head... LOL- I actually notice this a lot in our forums. Someone is asking for computer help and doesn't receive a response until 2 weeks later. I for one usually check the date before submitting a post, but I've loved to mention to people numerous times "Do you realize that person has probably moved on?"
Anyway, I'm not here to rag on you guys, time to get back on topic, but you gave me a giggle.. moving on. !http://forums.pcworld.com/legacyimages/

Hi Techy and Techie. :-)
Yeah, I expect a certain amount of non-responsives when it comes to posts. You may know the saying, "It is what it is." If the person doesn't get an immediate response or doesn't get the response he or she needs, then we may never see that person post again. Oh well.
In a situation like this, where the initial post was something to the tune of "give me examples of nice games," this Discussion can live on long after the original poster feels he or she has seen enough. This entire forum is for all of us: past, present, and future members. Anything we can say now can help others down the road. :D

crysis is built with DX10 and requires geforce 8 series cards , it wont even run on xp systems .
Not according to the minimum requirements pages that you posted. According to it, it will run on XP and can use nVidia GeoForce 6800 GT or better. That is not saying that it will run well...it would likely run like crap with a 6800 GT.

Hi All. First, I have been reading a lot of reviews on Crysis, and nowhere did I read that it couldn't be played on an XP machine. In fact just about every review I read was being played on an XP rig. Trying to play it with a 6800 GT card might be a challenge though. I don't think I would even consider it on anything short of at least a 7600. Also make sure you have enough processor and ram. That having been said, I just ran across a nifty little RPG on the Atari label, The Witcher. The two things that jumped out at me was Atari and Bioware as I had played and enjoyed Neverwinter Nights. Bioware used a new engine, something called aurora 2007. Be advised, read the sys. req. real good, as this game isn't a wimp. Strange as this may seem, I was reading some posts on the forum for the game and at least one writer tried to play it on a 8800 and ended up going back to a 7950. He said it just wouldn't play on the 8800, but did just fine on the 7950. Needless to say, I'm having some problems playing it with the 8400, but not enough that I'll get another lower card. This is a really great game for all you hard core RPG fans. I just happen to stumble on it while out one day. I wasn't even looking to buy any games. The down side is, there are a lot of reports of freeze ups. I strongly supect, that the game still has some bugs that ned to be addressed. There is already one patch that is about 114 Mb. and I suspect there'll be more. The game originated with a company called CDPROJEKT. It is a Polish company and they have done a remarkable job. It is non-linear, which is nice. You can check it out at www.thewitcher.com. It is for XP and Vista. I just noticed in the Sys, Reqs. that there was no mention of anything Dual Core. They recommend either a Pentium 4 3.0 Ghz or a AMD Athlon 64 +3000. I guess the dual core thing could be an issue, as I have run into that in the past and had to enable single core mode in order to play a game. Originally, Neverwinter Nights was like that, but I believe it was the last patch they issued that took care of that problem. They even put out an advisory to that effect, and recommended using single core mode to play the game. Bottom line is, if the specs don't mention a Dual core processor and the game acts up, try single core. coastie65

Crysis uses either DX9.0c or DX10 depending on your system. DX10 will not work on XP, however there is supposedly a DX9 upgrade in process to make it run like DX10. Crysis has a scalable graphics engine, so it will run on lower end systems.
Here are the minimum system requirements off Crysis's website:
>CPU: Intel Pentium 4 2.8 GHz (3.2 GHz for Vista), Intel Core 2.0 GHz (2.2 GHz for Vista), AMD Athlon 2800 (3200 for Vista) or better
>RAM: 1GB (1.5GB on Windows Vista)
>Graphics Card: NVIDIA GeForce 6800 GT, ATI Radeon 9800 Pro (Radeon X800 Pro for Vista) or better
>VRAM: 256MB of Graphics Memory
>HD: 12GB available
>Sound Card: DirectX 9.0c Compatible
>ODD: DVD-ROM
>OS: Microsoft Windows XP or Vista
>DX: DX9.0c or DX10

If that is the case with min. requirements, then I just might be playing Crysis pretty soon. I'm now really glad that I ordered my PC with 4 gigs of ram, instead of 2, since I would not have been able to run Crysis on 2GB (1GB for XP, 256MB for Ubuntu, and 1GB for Crysis).

Has anyone realized that the original poster, Diaoboix, has not posted anything since starting the Discussion in June? LOL :D Oh well, here's to keeping the Discussion going.
Hi, mph. Don't know if you have noticed that when you come into Forums, this thread shows up only as RE: and nothing more? ?:|
I'm not a gamer, but I do like the Mahjong Titans that came with my computer.
