How can I stop / cancel a large incoming email? I don't want to save it. I don't want to open it. I just want to make it go away all together! My OS is XP Pro. My email client is Outlook.Understand that I don't want to configure my settings for certain size attachments from certain groups, etc. I just want to get this one incoming email out of the "incoming" que. When I open the "Send / Receive" panel and select "cancel task", it only temporarily stops the action. Then as soon as I re-open Outlook, it starts trying to download all over again.I thought I had a half a brain when it comes to this stuff but now I think my head's going to explode trying to get this action stopped. :rolleyes:Thanks in advance for any help.

I think you may have to call some IT staff that runs the e-mail server that has the attachment to delete the message from there so that you can't get to it or have the server think you should be trying to get it. There may be an option in Outlook though I don't know which it is though you may want to state which version of Outlook you are using as there is at least 97, 2000, 2003, and 2007 to name a few.Regards,JB

I was afraid of that. The ISP I was using prior to this one (Verizon) allowed you to log right onto their server and delete mail directly from there before downloading however, I don't know if the one I'm currently using (Brighthouse) provides that option. Sorry, my version of Outlook is 2003.Thanks for your help & suggestion.

Ah, there is the outlook web access, where you'd log onto the mail server directly, approach that may work as one idea that I hadn't considered.Regards,JB

Why are you so sure you don't want this attachment. You don't know it's name till it's received.Otherwise don't activate receive and add this sender to your Blocked senders. It can't be that BIG.:rolleyes:Or Find something to do while it's arriveing.

Hi InCOREigible. Let me see if I am following you:You have your Outlook configured to POP your Brighthouse emails. You received an email into your Brighthouse account and then Outlook is attempting to retrieve that email. Each time you cancel the Send/Receive process, Outlook still tries to retrieve that large email from your Brighthouse account. Are we on the same page?If we are, why not just log into your Brighthouse email account and delete the email from your Brighthouse Inbox? Every ISP has to allow you access to your email online; not everyone uses POP forwarding. If the email is not in the Inbox, Outlook will have nothing to retrieve.

Hi mphe - You are precisely correct. That was my problem and question.Your solution is also on the money. I don't know why I didn't think of going directly to the server and deleting the incoming message from there until jbking suggested that I contact my ISP in the above post. I then did the old forehead slap, logged onto my ISP webmail and deleted it from there. Problem solved! Thanks for your follow-up. I really appreciate it.
