I have numerous restore points set up in XP and I had a recent problem which I thought could be fixed using System Restore. I tried to restore to the date of June 3 when all was working fine, but no matter which restore point I chose, I got the message that the I couldn't restore at that point. How do I fix system restore to make the restore points actually valid?

My system is as follows: Dell Dimension 8200; Intel®; Pentium® 4 CPU 2.00 GHz; 1.99 GHz, 512 MB Ram; OS is Windows XP Professional, Version 2002, Service Pack2.About 2-3 years ago using this same system, I tried System Restore and it worked fine. The reason I wanted to restore my system to an earlier date is that when I run Roxio I get an error message "Could not find CDR4" which is a file named Cdr4vsd.vxd in the folder %windir%systemdriversiosubsys. I don't know how to get this file back on my computer! I think it was deleted when I removed Music Jukebox from my computer via the add/remove window.I talked with a Dell Tech and he said I needed to replace my burner drive E so he sent me a new drive. Now I'm waiting till someone can be found to change the burner drives for me. I'm thinking that with the Plug & Play feature, when I have the new drive installed it will look for the drivers it needs and then Roxio can recognize it.Thanks for any help! I depended on System Restore and was devastated to find it didn't work.

[quote name='Maye']I depended on System Restore and was devastated to find it didn't work.Hi Maye. As Spike mentioned, System restore is not perfect - that is why the process can be reversed. There have been times when I used System Restore and it worked beautifully. Conversely, there have been times when no matter what date I chose, the problem would not go away.Once you get the new drive, and hopefully the technician sends the CD to go with it, install it and put the CD in the tray. The computer will do the rest. If that does not work, the information you provided in relation to spike's answer will go along way to help correct the problem.
