I have just finished building my pc with all brand new parts. When i finally was ready to turn on the computer i pressed the power button and the fans started yet nothing came up on the screen. After about 10 seconds the computer made strange clicking sounds then shut itself down at about 20 seconds. Now i cant start up the computer at all yet my motherboard's power led is on. Please help.

Hi littleims10. I have some questions for you?- Where did it sound like the clicking originated?- What is the wattage of your Power Supply? Open the case and look at the sticker on the Power Supply- Did you verify that all of the connections are secure?

all the connections are secure. The power supply's wattage is 700.I couldn't find where the clicking originated because it only happened once.

Okay, think back...do you remember hearing any beeps? If so, what was the sequence? You mentioned that you put this computer together with all new parts. From where did you buy them? Specifically, are they truly new or just new to you?My gut is telling me that the only type of "clicking" sound you would get is from something with a moving part...like a fan.- When you try to start up the computer now, do any of the fans spin at all?- Are there any wires close to or touching one of the spokes of any fans?- Have you tried to replace the Power Supply?

I ordered all of the parts brand new from newegg and i dont have a replacement psu. There are no fans hitting cords or anything like that. The computer does nothing at all when i hit the power button now. There were no beeps either.

Okay...my first instinct is that either the heatsink or the Power Supply failed. Am I correct in assuming that you got the processor, with a heatsink, from newegg also?If so, you can pick either one of those up for next to nothing at any computer store. The heatsink should be no more than $15 and a basic Power Supply should be no more than $50.Once you get these items, replace them one at a time. If the new heatsink works for you, return the old heatsink; same for the Power Supply.I am pretty much ruling everything else out at this point because I don't think anything else would make a clicking noise. Also, I do not think if any of the secondary fans failed that would cause a complete system failure. If, after you test both the Power Supply and the heatsink you still cannot boot, then we can explore other options.Additional InfoThe worst case scenario that I can think of is that one of the above hardware damaged the processor. Since you are getting a light on the monitor, there may be damage elsewhere. But replace those two parts first and we can take it from there.

I have almost the same problem. In my case, my PSU failed completely. I ordered a new one and tried to boot my PC. However, the PC won't even go to post. The new PSU seems to be supplying power, since the drives spin. However, the chassis fans and cpu fan do not spin!! The mobo light is on showing its getting power. No display, no post, no beeps. I tried replacing the cpu, mobo, graphics card, all without results. I also tried running it outside the chassis, but it still dont do anything. Im pretty desperate here, plz help..

Hi Suryansalim.[quote name='mphenterprises']- Did you verify that all of the connections are secure? In addition to that, are you sure that all of the Power Supply connections are connected properly?I know there have been times when I "thought" I sent everything up correctly but when I looked closer, I connected one PSU connection incorrectly and nothing came on.

You have both made faulty power connections to some peice of hardware or at the motherboard, as a result , you MAY have damaged some additional hardware

Yes, I checked it over, and it seems to be connected properly. I don't think its even possible to plug it the wrong way though, as both power cables to the mobo only fits 1 way. The PSU is new (since the last one died on me and may fried some component) But I changed almost everything on it and still won't work. Do you think it's the cpu fan that's causing this? (FYI its a 4 pin cpu fan)
