Hey Steve,

glad to hear we're not the only ones being annoyed by telemarketers from india. Some of these can usually be very persistent after you've said no thanks. Nowdays i can pick one of these calls by the long pause between pick-up and answer from other side (obviously using auto-diallers) - i just hang-up.

And the timing! usually right in the middle of tea or late at night when all you really want to do is relax.

On the odd occasion when they are right on the button, I certainly let them know where they stand (my wife calls me rude). I find that we are getting fewer and fewer calls. I have also given the same treatment to door knockers in the past - guess what, no more door knockers.

hey, if they want to be so rude as to disturb me during a meal or late at night, I can, and will, be just as rude to them

Some years ago I put my name on our no-mail list to stop direct marketeers inundating me with their junk mail, guess I might have to do the same with my phones.

I've been battling these calls for a long time and regularly post on Who Called Us. It is a losing battle. I've been on do-not-call for years but get these calls almost every day.

Caller id/block is useless; unknown name/number is the norm any more and is not (according to my phone company) an anonymous caller. So unless I recognize the phone number, I rarely answer my phone anymore.

What an invasion of privacy. I should just turn it off.

One of the carpet people just called me and I was thinking - how horrible might it be of me the next time they call to give them a fake name and address since my phone number is unlisted? Has anyone else considered doing that?

The benefits of seeing the number of the caller before we answer the phone! We just don't bother answering any call we don't recognize, or we suspect. What I do, though is upen the switch hooks long enough to make the connection and then hang up. That also shuts off the ringer. If it's a call factory, the computer won't be able to respond fast enough to put someone on the line by the time I hang up. That way I figure if it's someone who REALLY wants to talk to me, they'll call back. 99% don't. Those that do will be allowed to leave a message. I still won't pick up the phone.

Like cato, If I don't recognize the number I don't pick up. That do not call thing was useless.Unfortunatly I've had some friends call that I didn't recognize the number and didn't pick up. As far as those offshore telemarketers in India, they're probably the same people you talk to when you call for tech service. coastie65

I'm working on something that I think is going to help all of us, who are still having trouble with these people (I was going to say something else, but then I remembered that the Forum Fuzz might come and spank my hand.)

You're probably right, but dont forget that employers are actually importing labour so that that indian you hear at the other end of the phone may not actually be in India. I've noticed just recently that there are a lot of Indians/Pakistanis doing door to door sales here in Australia. And a lot actually do work in local call centres. So not only are a lot of our jobs being off-shored, but many of those that are still left to us are being taken over by imported labour.

But to get back on topic - unfortunately not everybody has the caller ID service available to them, so you cant weed out unwanted calls. However, you can tell where the call is coming from by the delay in answering back ie if there is a long silence after you have picked up the phone you can bet that your number has been dialed by a dialing machine in India.

So what's the remedy? We have a "dont call me" list here in Australia that's been put in place by our Government - I've put all my phones (2) on the list - guess what - no more telemarketer calls. But there is another option - get an answering machine (every call answered by the machine has to be paid for thus increasing the cost of running the call centre.) ]:)

I am new to this forum. I don't know much about this forum. My friends told me about this then I saw it. I think this site is providing information about Car Loans. Here I am providing information about how to get car loan. They are required to see this. I think this site is to be useful to whom wants to take a car with loan. they required to see this.
