I have an HP 2200 series PSC with the accompanying software installed. When I scan a photo to a folder the hpothb07.tif file shows up right along with the scanned photo. After deleting these files they just keep coming back. Is there some way to prevent these files or to permanently get rid of them? My OS is XP Home.

Hi Ebingerpv. I believe those are the temp files that show up along with anything you scan. I believe you may have "Show Hidden Files and Folder" selected in Windows Explorer. When you see the .tif file, is it opaque? (Cloudy or Transparent) If it is, then it is a hidden file. Some suggestions that I have for you:- When you close the scanning application, the temporary files should automatically go away. - Moving the actual scanned document to another folder may automatically delete the temporary item.- If you are comfortable with DOS, you can go in through the C: Prompt window and delete the .tif file that way.If all else fails, and if the .tif file is not that large, you may be stuck with it. I would contact HP technical support and ask them directly. From what I have seen around the net, they may not be much help but it is a start.

Is this an HP PSC2210? If so, I would have to agree with mph in that HP will not offer free support in that the product is outside the warranty period. They are very good at supportin g current products, however. The current drivers for that product are dated 2004.When you are scanning, are you scanning to a file (ie:saving the scan as a stand alone picture either .jpg or .tif), or to an application (ie: inserted to a document or e-mailed)?Are you giving each scan to a file a unique name, or are you letting the scanner name the file? How long has it been doing this?
