hi, im new here. i have this two problems. First is that, everytime i turn my pc on, it requires me to choose if im gonna use 1.6 Ghz speed or 1.2Ghz. the time, date, and other settings i like are always reseted to their default settings. like for example the time: 00:00:00(starts counting when the pc is on). i alwyas make sure that i save the settings i like before exiting. i press F10 or go to exit tab and selects save and exit. the problem is, i always do this evrytime i turn my pc. am tire od doing this again and again. why cant the settings i want be saved and stick to that settings? why the settings are always resetted? another problem is that, after saving all my settings, and im headed to my desktop, i cant open the my computer, my network places, my documets, internet explorer icon, recycle bin, and lots of folders. what happens when im trying to open or access the said icons is that the monitor becomes blank(blank blue screen) for few seconds and goes back to the desktop view. i can only open the others through RUN(start-run-desktop-"folder name") except for internet explorer(which is not included in the list).what should i do? i already performed a system restore for the both problems. itried configuring the folder options for my second problem.what should i do? help me.
thanks.> > im using windows 2000.> > regarding the other specs, im not sure about specs. Is it a Dell, HP, or some other major brand computer? If so, what is the model number? You should be able to read a model number of the comptuer case if it is a major brand. Depending on the brand, we might be able to point your to a location to read the model/part number off of it.Or was it a custom made computer? If so, then if you don't know the specs, then we might need to find a way to get that information (such as having you run Belarc Advisor - http://www.belarc.com/freedownload.html).

There is a small battery (usually a little calculator type or watch type battery) that supplies a constant current to the BIOS so that the BIOS settings are remembered. Sounds like you need to replace that battery. Is this a desktop computer or a laptop? The second problem likely requires some more information, such as your system specs (model and brand of computer if not a custom computer...and if custom, processor, motherboard, power supply unit, amount of RAM, etc) and which OS you are running, before we might be able to help.

{size:18px} Hi Rodel : It can be hazardous to a computer to IMPROPERLY "Remove" a "Worm"; Hopefully, you "Quarantined" the "Worm" and did NOT "Delete" it !? What program did you use to "remove" the "worm" ? It is highly recommended to ALWAYS FIRST "QUARANTINE" something found by a Security program, then investigate for a PROPER "Removal" technique. Do you remember the ( SPECIFIC ) Name of the "Worm" ? If yes, please tell us .

im not sure about the name of the worm . yeah, it was quarantine. and i dont know if the problem is a bad effect of the worm. all i rememebr is that i has the word "worm" in its filename. i dont know if it is part of the extension name. it has the word 'worm" in there.btw, replacing the battery (the circular one that is so thin and looks like a coin) is not effective. Questions: is there another battery there? or is it possible for a motherboard to have two different types of batteries? what do you mean calculator tpe battery?

The battery on the motherboard can commonly be found in three different items. Computer motherboards, watches and calculators. Pocket claculators like that style battery because it permits the very thin small case that is currently popular. Calculators are the one device that people can easily replace the battery themselves without much assistance - hence calculator battery. The battery maintains voltage on the CMOS chip which maintains the settings such as boot sequence, drive types, clock, etc.

If it was an issue of a dead battery, then putting in a new battery should allow you to set the BIOS setting and they should be remembered. If not, then it might be something else.
