No head phone jack on my monitor

I bought a gateway 22" monitor to basically use for my computer and to play games on. The monitor has component, composite, and s-video inputs, but i realized that i don't have an audio jack/head phone jack to hook my 2.1 speaker system to. Is there a converter out there and could someone tell me what it's call of something that'll convert audio from a composite signal to something that i could plug headphones into?

don't ask how, but i accidently sent a pm O_osorryi'm waiting to take the red and white cables of a composite signal and stick that to a converter so i can plug my speakers into that while the yellow cable goes to my monitor. Does anything like that exist? Am i making any sense? XD Shocked

Hi Westley. Honestly, no, you are not making any sense. Every computer comes with either an onboard sound card or a sound card that was installed. The audio outputs for a monitor a very basic. Plug the connectors for your speakers into the back of the computer. Now, if you come back and say that 1) the computer does not have an installed sound card 2) the onboard sound card does not work or 3) you do not know where the computer sound card connector is, I, or anyone within this forum can help you.If you want to experience the true sound of your 2.1 speakers, plug them into the back of the computer and NOT the monitor.

Or is it for sound from a gaming console? If it is for a computer, then mphenterprises is right...you should just hook the speakers up to the computer. If it is for a gaming console, then I can understand where you might be coming from. I would assume that the monitor does not have speakers and you want sound from the gaming console and that sound likely comes by way of a right and left composite/RCA output. If so, there are cables that will allow you to go from RCA to a mini "headphone" jack. See:[url]http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16882203023_

that's close to what i want. I know how to get sound on my computer, but my monitor has s-video, component, and composite inputs. I have a tv tuner card for my pc as well, but i don't want to go through the computer. Let me see if i can make sense again. I want the female part of the thing you just sent, but i need the other to be a headphone jack. Or something that would work the same. Basically is there anything with composite audio in and head phone jack audio out that is small and simple like the thing you just sent.

[quote name='spike']you will not get sound that way.See spike, you and I are just about always on the same wavelength. That is what I was trying to say.Westley, If your monitor does not have an audio output, you are trying to do the impossible. Have you ever seen reviews of any monitor? Speaker output for monitors are garbage. The monitor output, no matter what the monitor, will never be as good as the output you will get from a traditional sound card.I have a 30" LCD with all the inputs you mentioned. I also have two 15" monitors. I play games as well. All of my speakers have OUTPUTS as well; however, I would never consider plugging my speakers into the monitor.

hmmm. My speakers out put what you would stick into a headphone jack and i need something i can stick RCA cables into. Either A you all have no idea what i'm talking about cause i, myself, have no idea what i'm talking about or B it's impossible. See i have video for all my consoles on my monitor, but no sound :

http://www.circuitci...ductDetail.doMy video is goign to that monitor and looks really good, so i have no problem with video. The white and red parts of a composite signal are just dangling from the monitor. These are the speakers i'm trying to hook up to those dangling from the monitor http://www.amazon.co...00MVC0DW/ref=sr13/103-8373428-2896606?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1183737454&sr=1-3

If you would have mentioned your gaming console from the very beginning, the majority of this confusion could have been avoided

I suspected that he was trying to get sound from a console game (i.e Wii). Thus, he will have a right and left (or red and white) composite/RCA jack output from the Wii. He wants to go from that to a standard female headphone jack so that he can hook up his computer speakers to the Wii.I see two options:1) use the cable that I suggested before to go from the Wii to the computer line in and leave the computer speakers hooked to the computer. When you play the Wii, the computer will need to be on and the line in will need to be activated. If so, then the computer will pump the Wii's sound to the computer speakers.2) use the cable that I suggested before and try to find a female to female headphone adapter. It will be something like this: [url]http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16882123192...except for headphone jacks. I am pretty sure that they make such things. You might try Radio Shack.
