That should take care of it. Thank you and sorry for the confusion. I have a wii, xbox, vcr, n64, and my mp3 player all hooked up to a game selector which routes to the monitor XD  I have cables everywhere in my room XD Thanks again

Glad this situation is finally resolved for you. I have a question for the "gamers" out there. Westley mentioned that he or she has "cables everywhere." Is there wireless connections that can do what he or she needs?Smax, this might be up your alley with streaming video.

Granted that I don't know much about "serious" gaming, and have never even seen a Wii except in photos, but from his description of the cable, he was indeed trying to split the atom. What he had was a three part composite video/audio cable used to hook up entertainment devices to a TV or an Audio/Video Receiver like my old JVC 884. He could have used the Newegg adapter to connect to the line input of the sound card, but not directly to speakers, since it would be unamplified.Actually, I'm surprised he could hook up composite video (the yellow connector) to a monitor, for I have never seen such connection on a monitor. TV yes, but not a monitor. The composite video was replaced by S-Video and I have never seen a monitor with that either. I could connect the video in to my TV tuner card, and the audio to my audio in and used the computer, but that's not what he wanted.mph - I agree with the sound quality of the monitors. My 22" monitor has speakers in the bottom, about the same size as my laptop. I have never hooked them up, choosing instead to use my Logitech X-230's. My laptop had atrocious sound, so I wasn't going to even hook up the monitor sound. Even if I am half deaf, I can still tell horrid sound from good quality.

i could have used an external tv tuner box to do the same job, but they are expensive, $100, and would probably lag. I wanted a cable solution, and i couldn't find any. A lot of monitors have started to include those inputs cause they realized ppl will buy them just to game cause HD tvs are too expensive. http://accessories.u...CatId=2318Thats just some examples. I got the gateway cause i could get the warranty through circuit city.

Westley - the one thing I have not seen on any of these monitors is the unamplified audio in ports - the red/white RCA plugs, that your cable is for. They all have (including the Dell with the add on speaker bar) the standard 1/8" mini stereo plug input. The converstion cable that smax013 showed early in his post is designed to take the line out from a laptop or desktop audio card and connect to an amplifier for an entertainment system. The red/with connecters cannot be connected directly to speakers and get any sound. The cable can also be used to connect a device such as VCR or DVD player directly to a pc by using that conversion cable to connect to the audio line in. The yellow third connector would be then connected to a TV in or turner card. The ATI All-in-wonder card is typical of this connection.

My guess is that might also be the case for the Wii, but it might not. What I am not sure of is if modern powered computer speakers fit the bill of being truly unamplified or not.End result is that I am not sure what will happen if you hook the Wii to the computer speakers directly. I want to say that I remember someone that I know doing it and it worked...but my memory could be faulty.

That may depend on the device. Some line out connectors are actually amplified, laptops for example use the same plug for head phones, speakers and connection to entertainment amplifiers by calling it headphone/line out.The connection on an audio card, on the other hand is unamplified. before the sockets were color coded, if I didn't have sound from my speakers, I knew to swap the plug from one connector to the other.Back in the day, if you accidently plugged the tape machine into the phone plugs, you go distorted sound and if you plugged the phone red/white plugs into the tape or aux connection you go now sound. Both were unamplified, but had different electrical specifications.Right now those under 30 are scratching their head - Phono connection? The basic problem I see is that the Wii is probably designed to be connected to a TV, as are most game consoles, not a monitor.

Yeh- I almost said different impedance, but then I figured they would never understand. Now they think stereos all come in one box with two speakers on either side.Had to do a training session out at camp, and hauled an amplifier and two large speaker enclosures that are close to 30 years old out and hooked up to my laptop. When we had some sessions where there was sound elements, everyone was amazed at the quality of sound, except fro those of us with grey hair. It difficult to be the sound from a speaker with 12" woofer 6" mid range and 4"tweeter with a good crossover. The only difficulty is that when the cones degrade, I don't know where I will get replacements.
