That's OK Spike - I had half a page written in draft on IE and downloading a newer version when I went back to check on something and noticed Windows instead of Internet.Me thinks malware or registry. But we are all just going to have to wait for Chi03 to come back. Its an interesting desktop though.

You can go to the downloads sections of this website, and in the lower search box, where is says search within downloads, enter registry cleaner. You will get several choices of free and trial registry cleaner. I personally use Registry Mechanic from PC Tools. Its costs $39 a year, good for 3 computers (I have 3) so its not too much of a cost for me.You will find, at the very least your machine will run some better. Windows is bad about leaving bits and pieces around as you add and delete items. We had one poster who downloaded one, and when he came back said the cleaner found over 6,000 errors in his registry! I was personally guessing about 1,500. I clean regularly and usually have 40-60. Its not a one time deal, but something you need to keep up with, like scanning for viruses, except the registry cleaners don't usually start on their own.

[quote name='chi03']can i use the restore point so that if something happens in the registry.i can turn it back?Absolutely. It is a good idea to get in the habit of setting restore points before installing any program or doing anything that may adversely affect your computer.

I would go with one of the free cleaners. That is one reason I pointed you there. The "trials" are more in line with demos. They will tell you what the problem is, without being able to fix it until you pay the registration fee.I would create a restore point before you start.Yeh, looking at your desktop, I got the impression your a student, and students are usually broke.

Can you please clarify that question? At this point, it doesn't make any sense. If you are only asking what mDNSResponder is, it is a process associated with "Bonjour for Windows" software. It is used by ITunes for music sharing. This is a non-essential process.

Okay, do not try to delete it directly through the Program Files folder. If you see it listed in there, then there should be a corresponding entry in the Add/Remove utility under the Control Panel. You may see either iTunes, Bonjour, or some other audio application. If you see something you do not recnogize, Uninstall it from there. Set a Restore Point BEFORE you delete itAlso, click CtrlAltDelete to see what processes you are running right now. Also, Avast and Spybot are good but are they your only security protection? Do you have a firewall in place or are you using Windows Firewall?
