I've been trying to do this for 2 days now and going crazy. Originally I took my cable line directly to my ati tv wonder 650 card and it worked good with Sage TV. Problem was, I wasn't getting all the channels I wanted. My dvr receiver gets channels in the 100's that I really like. So, I go down to Comcast and rent a separate Motorola box. They tell me that this will get all the channels. Specifically, it is a Motorola DCT244. I bring this home and realize that I don't know what I am doing. I take the cable line and put it directly into the motorola. Then I used a splitter from the "Out to VCR" coax port on the back of the motorola and took one line to the tv and the other line to the ATI tv wonder 650. Then, in trying to use Sage to get all the channels, it won't. This doesn't completely surprise me but how do I get the tv tuner card and Sage to get the channels from the cable box? Did I open a can of worms here? Please help. Thanks.

Typically, such channels are in the "digital" range and as such are scrambled by the cable company. In order to unsramble them, you need a cable box. A raw tuner CANNOT do it...except if it a tuner card with a digital tuner and the ability to accept a CableCard. The FCC has finally required cable companies to supply CableCards so that consumers can by their own cable boxes or TVs with digital tuners. This will also work with a tuner card that takes CableCards. There are not too many of those type of tuner card, however, and my guess is that yours is a "standard" tuner card, which means it has an analog tuner. As such, the only way that you will get those channels if there are in fact in the digital range is to use a line out connection using a RCA/composite video (or S-video) cable to connect your cable box to your tuner card. You might be able to do a co-ax (cable line) connection if you set your tuner card to channel 3 or 4 (just like you used to hook a VCR up to your TV). The point is, however, that for those stations above 99, you will NOT be able to change the channel with the tuner card but have to do it with the cable box.
