I am getting an external hard drive for backup. I also would like to partition the drive for a dos program. Any software recommendations (both backup and partition)

Hi adroitlion. I have to two partition software recommendations for you; one is free.- GParted (Free)- Partition Magic ($70)For the backup, the majority of external drives come with software that will allow you to backup information. Essentially, an external drive is designed as a "backup" drive.
