I tried to download and run the "regfix.exe". After downloading I clicked on run and after it seemed to process a gray box appeared with these words: Access Violation at address 0047EDCB in module 'regix.exe'. Read of address 0000000C. Does anyone have any idea why this would happen and what I can do to fix this problem? I have been having so many problems with my computer and I am trying to fix things starting with the registry. I am trying to avoid having to do a system restore from scratch which I have backed up on cd's when I bought the computer back in 2003. If I do that, how do I not loose all of my current information on my computer now? Thank you in advance for your help. Virginia

I attempted to google regfix.exe and got confilcitng references. Where did you get information to download it? I would immediately uninstall it. First go to the add/remove programs section from control panel to remove it.Then go to the download section of this website, enter registry cleaner in the seach box, and several free and trial programs will be listed. There are a couple that don't have all the information yet, but one that others have used is Eusing. Give it a try, I have three computers and use PC Tools Registry Mechanic which costs $30, but its good for use on three machines.

I got the information from the Windows XP Newsgroup Registry Performance and Maintenance Help Resource. I will try the one that you suggest and see if I have better luck getting it or one of the others to run. I did notice however that quite a few of the people on both of the websites were almost anti registry cleaners and yet I can't help but notice there are so many available, even Microsoft is coming out with a registry scanner so I have to believe that there is some relavence to them. Thank you for your help. Virginia.
