[quote name='DianaW']Probably been asked a thousand times, but here goes:> > Are generic batteries as good as ipod brand? Am thinking of buying a battery online and not sure what kind I should get. Any suggestions?> > Thank you for any help! :)I am assuming that you are talking about buying a replacement battery for your iPod because the original battery is dying or dead. If so, then there are batteries that as just as good, if not better (more powerful, thus more running time) than Apple's batteries.I bought and replaced the battery for my 3G iPod. I got it from Sonnet:[url]http://www.sonnettech.com/product/ipodbatteries.htmlThe advantage of going through Apple is that THEY will do the minor surgery needed to replace the battery. If you buy a battery through someone like Sonnet, then you must replace that battery yourself. And if you are the least bit squimish about opening up a computer or some other electronic device (i.e. you are worried that you might kill it), then I would suggest going through someone who will install the new battery for you. There are other companies that replace batteries other than Apple, but frankly Apple's price is not that bad: [url]http://www.apple.com/support/ipod/service/battery/ considering you will pay about $20 to $30 for a battery alone.

Thank you Smax! I will check out your suggestion. And you're right, Apple doesn't cost that much, but I have an issue with the fact that they will send an ipod back that wasn't mine. Mine's never been dropped, gotten wet, etc...Not too squimish and I'm pretty good at fixing things, so plan on doing it myself. Wish me luck! :) Thanks again for the info!

It was not too hard to change the battery in my 3G iPod. Sonnet provides instructions on how to do. If I recall correct, they even supply the instructions on a CD so you can get full color pictures. And I will note that I am not squimish at all...next on my agenda is to upgrade my hard drive on my MacBook Pro, which to some degree makes the iPod "operation" look easy. :D

[quote name='DianaW']Good luck with that MacBook Pro hard Drive! For that I would be too chicken! > > > > My ipod is a 3rd generation with a 10 gig hard drive. Had thought about buying a video ipod, but already have a PSP so seems kind of redundant...Then your minor surgery on your iPod should be rather similar to mine. It is not that tough. The toughest part is getting the case openning "going". Once you get it started, it comes off rather easily. Just be careful near the dock connector.
