I check the system stats and its sayingCPU Usage 100%Commit Charge 579M/1683MI have WinXP SP2 2.53Ghz 1GB RAM. Cleared the browser cache, re installed AOL. Inertent connection Verizon FiOSI ran Spybot, AVG Anti Soyware, Lavasoft Ad Aware, Mcafee Anti-Virus and Windows Defrag and am still maxing out my CPU Usage.

We need to know a little about your computer first. What brand and model is it, and if it is a custom/privately built, what is the motherboard name and model. What CPU and speed, which operting system and version are you using and how do you connect to the internet.

You have run all the updates on IE7 right? Have you tried to see if this happens in non-IE browsers like Firefox or Opera? IIRC, AOL is based on IE and so it may use some of the same stuff as it may be the anti-phishing filter working overtime. Also how is the physical memory on the system and what else is running when you start up IE or AOL and get this problem? Could there be Java Updates or other IE plug-ins wanting to check for updates that could be causing the bottleneck?Just some more ideas,JB

Hi xchris5442x. In addition to what JBKing suggests, have you opened Task Manager while you approach 100% CPU usage to see what process is eating up your usage?

Yeah, Task Manager was what I used to see that I had a 100% CPU Usage problem. There were a number of programs running large. A number of them were AOL programs running in the background. Some of the other programs would not let me shut them down.

Without being in front of your computer, there is no way anyone can tell what is truly going on.If you have not tried JBKing's suggestion, I would advise doing that next. If that does not work, you will have to do a bit of writing. What we would need to see is a list of all the processes that bring your CPU usage up to 100%. Then, we can start narrowing the field of culprits.
