Hi guys, i am having a problem with my PC. The CPU usage increases to almost 100% soon after booting up. The task manager shows a System Idle Process hugging almost all of the Cpu resources. I dont know what to do. :( Please help..

Hi Abhijit. Wait, am I reading this correctly? "...The System Idle Process hugging all the CPU Resources."I think you may be misinterpreting the numbers. Your Total CPU Usage should ALWAYS add up to 100%. Various processes will split this number and then the rest of the 100% will be allocated to System Idle Process. For example, right now, my System Idle Process is at 98%. However, if I look at the CPU Usage at the bottom of the Ctrl-Alt-Delete screen, my CPU Usage is only 2%.Look very carefully at the CPU Usage indicator. That is the true figure for which you should concern yourself.

Hi mph, Yeah you are right. Actual cpu uusage isnt much. But i dont remember this happening before. Ever since this started, all applications run slowly and internet explorer hangs frequently. Maybe i should reinstall windows??

Would you use a bazooka to kill a fly? Reinstalling Windows is a final option for any issue. I have some questions for you:- When was the last time you ran Error Check or Defragmented your Hard Drive(s)?- What security do you have in place?- What are the exact specifications of your computer, including Power Supply rating? (You can find the PS rating on the inside of the computer on a sticker on the side of the Power Supply)- How many programs load during startup? (You can initally judge this by following what Aurora mentioned)
