Hello.
I'm in the market for a new laptop (Core 2 Duo, 1 GB RAM) and am faced with choosing either Windows XP or VISTA as the OS.

I've been reading about what a memory hog VISTA is and about numerous software incompatibilities. And I recall what a wash-out ME was so can't help but conclude that VISTA is to XP like ME was to Win98: a useless upgrade.

Laptop specs aside and considering that Microsoft is expecting to market a new OS in 2010, Windows 7, should I bypass VISTA and stick with XP like I bypassed ME for XP? I realize that support for XP will expire sooner than that for VISTA and that VISTA was late (to the market) as Windows 7 will likely be.

Thanks in advance.
