Hi Guys
We have a number of users who when they try to view a PDF parts of it appear blacked out.
If they hightlight the blacked out areas they can read the text, though it is in pink.
If they close the PDF and reopen it sometimes they can read it fine or the other parts of the text can be blacked out.
Anyone got any ideas as to what's causing this?
Most users are on XP Pro, using Adobe reader 8.0

Hi Zaphod. I have some questions for you:
- Am I to assume that all of these users are under a network?
- Is Adobe Acrobat installed locally on each computer or on the server?
If locally, have you tried to uninstall and then reinstall Adobe Acrobat from each computer?
If on the server, have you tried to uninstall and then reinstall Adobe Acrobat from the server?
- How long has this problem been occurring?
- How long have you had Adobe Acrobat 8.0?
- Are all the updates current for Adobe Acrobat?
- Am I to assume that all of these users are under a network?

I would also ask if it is only on certain PDF files (i.e. it happens with the same PDF file for multiple people) or a wide variety of PDF files? Are they PDF files that you or your users created? Or where they created by other entities?

Hi Zaphod. One question you did not answer is how long have you had 8.0? In conjunction with that, has this problem occurred:
- the entire time your company has been using 8.0?
- both when your company used 7.0 and 8.0?
- Also, did you reinstall using an executable file saved on the server, or locally, or did you go back to adobe.com?
My suggestion at this point would be to uninstall 8.0 on one computer and download 7.0 (rollback). You can download 7.0 here. If I may also suggest, make it a habit to scan any application you download, no matter the source.
Once you install 7.0, you may be immediately prompted to update to 8.0. Do not update anything at this point. Experiment with several .pdf files and see if you get the same problem as you did with 8.0:
- If you do, then uninstall 7.0 and reinstall 8.0.
- If you do not, then at this time, do all the updates directly through the application and not through adobe.com. Once you do all the updates, verify that all .pdf files are viewable and then do this process for each computer within your network.
