hi there ,
its the first time here , am lets say a novice anyway my laptop seems to very effected,
so i have to re install the windows xp sp 2 ,from the recovery cd.(intel pentium ®4 CPU, 2,80 GHZ9
ANYWAY I DONT KNOW WHAT THESE NUMBERS ARE AS I USE the laptop ONLY FOR digital imaging .
the big questions are
how do i get about it
2) is my computer FAT OR NFTS? lol
3) will my computer be fast like before?
4)any other advise as i want to do it myself so that i get the hang of it

Hi Jarwa. Reinstalling Windows is a relatively easy process. Within this forum's Document Community, there are several Documents that give one variation or another of this process. However, none of them give specific details and step-by-step of how to solely reinstall Windows XP. Here is a link from Microsoft that will guide you through:

Basically, the computer is doing the majority of the work, you just have to answer a few questions.Since you have the recovery CD, your computer more than likely does not have a recovery partition. So, here are the basic steps:

- Restart your computer and get to the BIOS screen. You are going to change the Boot Priority of your computer to boot from the CD. If you do not know how to do this, follow the instructions within this link:

- Make sure you set the CD Drive (Optical Drive) as the primary boot device.

- Insert the Recovery CD and push F10 to save the settings and restart the computer

Once the computer restarts, it will attempt to boot from the Recovery CD. Now, depending upon how the Recovery CD is configured, it may just automatically run through the reinstallation process. You will be prompted to accept a standard disclaimer. At this point, you may be prompted to choose which partition you want to install Windows. Choose the C: partition. This partition will already have a current Operating System in it.

You will then be prompted to choose whether you want to keep the current Operating System and install the new Operating System or delete the current Operating System and reformat the C: partition. I would advise you to reformat. This may take a long time but be patient. Once the reformat is complete, the computer will restart and once it restarts, the installation process will continue.

From this point, your work is just about over. Give the computer about an hour or so to reinstall Windows. You will then be prompted to answer some basic questions and to enter your Product Key. That's pretty much it.

To answer your other questions:

2) All Windows XP partitions are formatted using NTFS (New Technology File System)

3) You will basically have a brand new computer...just remember to gather up all of your program CDs and drivers

4) The most comprehensive Document I can show you give pointers on how to downgrade from Vista to XP. Now, obviously, the bulk of this Document will not apply to you but review it and use any suggestions you can.
