I have a Clear History program that prevents any history tracks from being visible to anyone who clicks on history in Firefox. My cookies are also eliminated. All my surfing tracks are gone with the exception of the Google pull down in the Google toolbar. This is where you would type in something like PCWorld software and Google would bring up all instances of it. Unfortunately I cannot delete "PCWorld software" and all the other search items I looked at during my surfing session. How do I delete all Google searches so that when my girlfriend types in hot, it won't show hot women which of course would get me a ton of grief.

We wouldn't want you to get a ton of grief from your girlfriend...of course, you could just stop looking up hot women using Google! ;-)

There should be a "Clear history" button/command at the bottom of the pulldown menu in the Google Toolbar. These is in mine.

Hi Tom. First, I have moved this Discussion from Web Browsing & Email to Privacy & Security. Now, in addition to Smax's suggestion, you can also use a security application called CCleaner. This application will delete all traces of personal data, not files, but things like history, cookies, forms, etc.

When you first open the application, everything that you need to delete is already checked off. If you are this concerned about hiding your steps, you can also, click on the Options section and then click on Settings to select how secure the private data deletion is. The most secure is 7 passes. This application is free. Click on the hyperlink to get more information and download the .exe file.

Also, as Smax mentioned, just don't search for that kind of stuff. If she happens to catch you looking at something you have no business seeing, believe me, there is nothing worst than a woman scorned. :D

On Firefox> go to tools>options>privacy>click clear now>then tick the ones you want gone.

I want to thank everyone for their correct answers, they worked. However there is one remaining question I have. Apparently there are inbedded items on the Google pull down area where you type your search that don't go away such as when you type a up pops Amazon, autotrader, apple, argos, for a total of nine items. This is where I was confused as I couldn't (can't) get rid of these items. While you guys showed me how to get rid of my specific searche tracks, are these other things impossible to get rid of? As for the girlfriend, she goes to see the lottery results and types in "lo" and up pops "love" and she wonders why I'm searching for "love." Or she types in "f" looking for food and wants to know why I'm searching "facebook" which I understand if for teenagers and where I have never been. Can I get rid of these other things that pop up or are they set in concrete?

Hi Tom.....Both of these problems that you mention are new features of the search option of Mozilla Firefox. Let me try to explain:

- The keyword search is simply that, a keyword search. If you type in "Win," the search feature will automatically populate "Windows" and every variation that it feels you are trying to search. This has nothing to do with your search history or your internet activity. For this, your girlfriend is going to have to trust you a bit. I do not know of a way to disable this option; however, it does come in handy sometimes.

- The nine options you see are the various search engines you have built into the browser. This is easy to get rid of and you can even add your own search engines. To remove the search engines you do not want, follow these steps:

1) Open Mozilla Firefox

2) Click on the Search Bar Drop Down icon and then click "Manage Search Engines"

3) From here, you can remove any of the search engines you do not want. I believe you have to keep at least one

This is a function of the Google Toolbar. You can have it offer suggestions as you type. If I type an "f" in the Google Toolbar, it gives me a list of options including facebook even though I have NEVER used or visited facebook.

You can turn this off by going to the Setting pull down menu on the Google Toolbar. Select Options. In the resulting window, you should be in the Features tab. Click on the Search Box Settings... button. In the resulting window, delect select (uncheck) "Suggest popular searches" (you can also de-select "Suggest searches from my search history"...then if you forget to clear your history, they should not pop up if your girlfriend uses your computer). That should do it.
