Hi Jarwa. Okay, Windows Explorer is not the same as Internet Explorer. So no, Mozilla has nothing to do with this. Follow these steps to remove the "read-only" attribute from your pictures:

- Right Click on My Computer and then click Open
(Once you do that, you will now be in Windows Explorer)

- Navigate to the folder in which you saved your pictures.
1) If you do not know in what folder you saved your pictures, while still in Windows Explorer, Right Click on My Computer and click Search...
2) Click on the green arrow next to Pictures, music, or video
3) Put a check mark in the box next to Pictures and Photos
4) Type in the picture's filename
5) Click Search

- Once you find the picture(s), Right Click on the picture and click Properties

- At the bottom of the window, you will see:
Attributes: Read Only Hidden Advanced...

- Take out the check mark in the box next to Read Only

- Click Apply and then OK

At this point, you should be able to modify the photo. If you have any questions, please ask.

I'm a little confused are you viewing your pictures via your browser? Or is it just having issues saving it from paintshop? Eitherway have you tried to download a free image program like infranview and then copy and paste your modified photo to infranview and save from there?

I have the same problem, but with a CD that my daughter copied for me. I have Windows XP and it uses Microsoft Picture Editor. There is one pic that I want to delete and it says READ ONLY, CANNOT CHANGE. When I click on Properties, READ ONLY is checked. When I uncheck it and try to APPLY that, it says I can't because it is read only!

I've tried that about a million times....

Thanks

Hi Ramotes. Welcome to PCWorld. :D Okay, first, please do not latch onto someone else's Discussion. Regardless of whether or not you believe your issue is the same, you should create your own Discussion.

Now, that being said, the reason you cannot change that picture is because it is on a CD. Anything on a CD is read-only. What you need to do is copy that picture to your hard drive and then remove the read-only status. Do not try to move/paste the picture. Since it is on a CD, you will get a disclaimer asking you if you are sure you want to move this read-only file. If you are not sure how to copy/paste, follow these steps:

- Open Windows Explorer (Right Click on My Computer and click Properties

- Click on the CD Drive

- Find the picture that you want to copy and Right Click on it, then click Copy

- For now, click on the Desktop icon

- Right Click within the Desktop section and click Paste

- Once you do that, you can then follow the steps listed to change the Properties of the picture on the Desktop

Thanks for the answer and the welcome. I knew how to do all that, I just thought I could fix the CD :) Thanks for your patience and response. I knew I had a 50-50 chance of getting smacked if I started a new topic or glommed on to someone else's thread! I picked wrong, huh?! ;)

Thanks again.

:-) No, you didn't choose wrong, you just didn't know. I have left your section of this Discussion connected with the original Discussion so that others may learn what you now know. Anyway, once a CD is burned, you cannot "fix" any file that is on the CD. You would first have to copy that file to your hard drive and then do whatever you want to do with it. Once you do that, you should have no problem.

If {user:username=mphenterprises} will allow me, I will slightly correct what he said (see above).

It is only CD-Rs that cannot be modified. If it was a CD-RW, then you could potentially modified the file (depending if the CD-RW was actually burned as a CD-RW or as a CD-R). The only potential issue is that CD-RWs don't tend to work as well on different computers unless you are both using the EXACT same burning software (and the built-in Windoze XP burning does not count as it only allows you to ERASE a CD-RW to use again...not modify files...at least to my knowledge).
