Hi :

So WHAT Settings are "checked" in "Network Connections" located in your "Control Panel" ?
Should also mention the SPECIFIC Name of your OS, like Win XP SP1, Win XP SP2, etc ?

When you say little yellow triangles, where are you seeing this? In the task bar by the clock? Or in the Network Connections window (right-click My Network Places and select Properties on Windoze XP)?

Have check your drivers in the Device Manager? Are showing that they are working OK?

Changed anything recently on the computer? New software? New hardware? Any major crashes or problems?

What OS are you running?

im using windows xp sp2. i did recently get a virus but removed it so i cant see why that could be the problem. im seeing the triangles in the talkbar and in network connections. its just odd because i have never had this problem before. my wireless is one thing but even just plugging in the cort doesnt work. it scannes for a ip address then just comes up with the little triangle. should i uninstall and reinstall my software for my internet. i have at&t yahoo dsl. but if i do that when i install the software again it connects to the network and runs tests so im afriad that i wont even be able to do that. any help would be appreciated because i really NEED to be online again.

Hi :

I hope when you say you "removed" a "virus" that you actually "quarantined" it and did NOT "delete" it;
most Malware nowadays are seldom "viruses", but something more complex, such as trojans, worms,
etc . Best to ALWAYS INITIALLY "Quarantine" something, then investigate for the Proper Removal
technigue .
At this point in an attempt to "restore" your net connection and have Win XP SP2, I recommend you :
click "Run", type "cmd", click "OK", enter "netsh winsock reset" and go from there .

Part of the "Proper Removal technigue" is to write down the complete "address" of the Malware, then
mention it on the Support Forums of whatever Security program made the "detection" .

This is a strange situation. A yellow triangle generally means a problem, but is also usually accompanied by a balloon that explains the problem. For example if a USB printer is off, you would get a yellow triangle and a balloon saying that the printer was disconnected. Now when a ethernet connection is disconnected, you get a red x, and if the wireless card is unplugged, you may also get a red x.

This may be a driver problem. Go into device manager (Start -> Control Panel -> double click System -> select Hardware Tab -> Device Manager button)

Then click on the "+" in front of Network Adapters and see if there are any message. Double click on each device (you should have the wireless card and ethernet connection). This will open up a dialog box and in the center there should be a box labeled Device Status that may give you a idea of what the problem is. When everything is normal, it will say the device is working properly.

The second picture tells a lot. The wireless is disconnected. We will leave this for a moment.

The ethernet is connected to the LAN, but the LAN is disconnected from the broadband connection.

First Broadband is any high speed "always-on" internet connection. It may be DSL, Cable or as in my case Satellite.

The ethernet cable is connected to the router, so the light on the front of the router for your computer should be lit. Unfortunately there is apparently a connection problem between the router and the broadband receiver (some call it a modem, but it is not really a modem).

On a test basis, connect the ethernet cable from your computer directly to this device without going through the router. You should have internet then. If not, it is a problem with your DSL connection. I hope you have anti-virus and anti-spyware with the definitions up to date, because when you do this, you are open to the world. If you do not, once you have the connection to the internet. Turn of the computer, disconnect and then post back the results.

We will have to do this one step at a time because you have a number of variables.

im very sorry for the late reply. internet is down as you all know. but, it doesnt matter either if i go from the router to the computer or go from the modem to the computer. now the weird thing is that my computer wont go online at all but my dads will connect to the internet and browse webpages but strangely cant do anything else such as virus updates, itunes, and especiually i cant sighn into messanger. i use yahoo messanger and aim. also is it my computers causing the problems or is it my dsl. should i switch to charter and start from scratch.

If you connect your computer directly to the DSL "modem", you should be able to open your browser (either IE or Firefox) and have instant connection to the internet. If you do not, you need to contact your DSL provider. Something is wrong either with your DSL "modem" or with the service.

To verify, connect another computer directly to the service in the like manner. If neither connects directly you need to contact your DSL provider.

This is the test done when setting up a wireless network, as most routers will direct you to make sure you cann connect to the internet before you connect the router in the connection.

Only if you have a viable functioning broadband connection can you then connect the router and expect a conneciton.
