both the network transfers and file transfers are faster in sp1, so is the transfer rate to usb drives. According to a sp1 paper , remote locations transfer will be around 50% faster. Try transferring between two vista systems. I was able to get speeds upto 38MB/s in wired transfers with normal lan cables and on board network cards with my pc and another vista laptop, while i never got more than 30MB/s when transferring from an xp system.
These results are also for non sp1 systems.

SATA Raid will not work on motherboard - buy new motherboard, processor RAM.
Paperport wiil not work - buy upgtrade - not cheap.
Nero will not work - buy upgrade.
Dictionary & Thesaurus will not work - manufacturer does not have a fix.
LS120 and DVD Writer will not work on same IDE connector - no solution found so no LS120 on new setup.
Expensive for gadgets and a fancy interface!

For anyone desiring a summary of ?Why XP's still around and/or the way to go for now,? here you are...enjoy. ;o)
Fry's Electronics (California, USA) is now selling Vista Premium OEM FULL (not an upgrade) for a paltry $99. Why? Because nobody wants it. This situation is unheard of & unprecedented for an M$ OS release.
Dude, even DELL wants OUT!
http://www.computerb....uk/news/192477
The price is dropping due to feeble retail (vs. OEM) demand, as I've stated previously. Moreover, Microsoft was aware that Vista would be crippled on mainstream hardware, and they've been caught @ their game:

Additional data continues to show that Vista adoption by those users making a choice (i.e., more tech-savvy) are not buying Vista in numbers anywhere close to the adoption rate of WinXP. The marketplace continues to speak.

MS freely admitted to reliability & performance issues requiring fixing (see SP 1 section):

Consumers are NOT AMUSED by M$'s chicanery, and are suing over the deception:

A typical sample of the MULTITUDE of articles discussing skipping Vista altogether and waiting for Windows 7 (probably a fool's errand, as it may just be a Vista-derivative, per Leo La Porte this weekend; 04/13/08)

I know why XP is still Strong... I'm an XP User, That made the difference. Vista is Cool looking but for me a Programmer like me Vista has many annoying features (Widgets,Sidebars, etc) i still prefer XP which is simpler and not heavy on hardware requirement and favorable for an average and lower class to afford XP minimum Hardware Requirement than Vista minimum Hardware Requirement and the fact Vista Compatible Application are still relatively lower than XP Compatible Application. Cybershops in Philippines are strong with XP OS because XP is easier to Afford and maintain... Sorry but its my opinion not to offend those Vista Fanatic, XP works finely with me and definitely i wont leave my XP alone

THE LATTER THANK YOU......
!!!!!
Somehow we cannot find sound business judgement in spending $300 with Microsoft , $500 for hardware upgrades, incalculable support expense, unmeasured retraining costs to get more aggravation from our clients. If Mr. Ballmer wishes to spend $300,000,000 advertising the remaining product Microsoft has on which no one can place a true value more power to him. Seems a bit steep to this old man! Due consideration should be given to Ray's budget in developing the next product release. Analyzing all the data the logical mind concludes in these economic times the volume is just not there to support expeditures of this magnitude to promote a 15 cent disc of whatever flavor! Why not purchase Puerto Rico or Mexico where they are produced?
The staff here just voted that Jerry Seinfeld is definatively the only winner in the "Vista Saga" with $10 million in his account ?:| .

So my friend bought a new high speed laptop, newest this, newest that... great. He went to connect to my local area network to transfer some files and nothing worked. This is a task that i routinely I perform with fresh installs of Windows 98 to this day. After 30 minutes of tweaking, we accomplished what most operating systems can do in .30 seconds.
Only a fool would mistake Vistas 'security' with total paranoia. It is a system incapable of assessing a threat, so it interprets all unknowns as potential hazards. Vista is as secure as a dictionary locked in a safe- yes nobody will ever affect its data, but nobody will ever learn to spell from it either.
I really have a hard time believing that an experienced IT professional or software engineer who knew history would have the nerve to call Vista 'new technology' or address those those wise enough to shun it with contempt. Mental acuity is built a step at a time, and those who jump invariably fall. Vista is not a step forward, it is a lateral step at best, and realistically. a step backwards.
The words of Windows fanboys will not do to suppress the inflammation that this quagmire of an operating system has produced. Any computer technitian of merit could tell you this, not some wannabe poseur masquerading as something hes not, which is an expert on anything.
Vista not worth the eye candy. Until Microsoft System 7 comes out, take a look at
ClockX - Desktop Analog Clock
Xentient - Desktop Thumbnail Previews
CCCP - Video Player and Codec pack allowing video thumbnails
ClearType- Microsoft Font Smoothing
Orbit Downloader- Configurable download manager
IrFanview- Graphical editing/ Viewing
Picasa- Photo Organization
Unlocker Assistant - Dependencies Resolver
Never trust anything that you have to 'get used to.' If the people who made it were doing there jobs, you would feel like you just tried on a brand new version of an old shoe. But Vista doesn't fit. It requires too much in terms of resources, and delivers way too little. Anybody who tells you otherwise is either blind or stupid or a liar. Or a mac user.

Vista is definately not near perfection, but you have to remember that some of the hatred for Vista comes from old stereotypes and is encouraged by the last couple years of "Buy a Mac" ads (which most of are, BTW, complete BS :)). I, for one, am a semi-satisfied Vista user (still get a BSOD sometimes when playing COD5, but I don't blame Vista since COD5 is such a crappy game. Anyways it only happens like once a month since I only try to play COD5 once a month). Vista is fine as long as you have the Hardware to back it up, which brings us to another reason people still prefer XP. But, Windows 7 I think will bring the best of both OSs.
