My Registry is a disaster. My system is as slow as glass flowing. There is a whole jar full of registry repair prigrams out there...
Which one does the best job for the least amount of ka-ching? I don't want to just move things around, I want to delete all the junk that isn't doing anything...

If money buys the best, which one is it?

Hi Legend. Welcome to PCWorld. :-)

I have moved this Discussion from the Windows Community into the Privacy & Security Community. You are going to find that there are many opinions about the "best" registry cleaner. Soak it all in and then make a decision for yourself. Please keep this in mind, in relation to computer applications, cost does not always equate to "better." Some of the best applications are free. Enjoy the forum. :D

:D Hi :

Unless really necessary, most Experts advise AGAINST using "registry cleaners" , I primarily rely

on the Advise of Fred Langa's "Are registry cleaners worthwhile ?" at

http://WindowsSecrets.com/comp/070301 AND the many "Micosoft Most Valuable Professional(s)" at

aumha.net/viewtopic.php?t=28099 .

Hey Legend! As MPH said there is alot to take in.I have been using Registry Mechanic for a year (just renewed) and so far it does the intended job. But for a FREE alternative give LIVE ONE CARE online at Microsoft.com a try.Just follow the links. It will take care of your needs and it will ask you what you want to delete or have cleaned.Could be a good Start to your quest. In any case let us know how you fair.

Most trials limit to what you can and can't do, so you can't really experience the full benefit of the program unless you purchase it.

Another vote for CCleaner (CrapCleaner). It has many different options, easy to use, free. I've been using it for years with NO problems. I also use TweakNow RegCleaner Std which has very few options (it deals with the registry and not temp files, cookies, etc.) Use it in beginner mode, only delete "safe to delete" files, and your done, simple, quick, no problems yet.

Hey techie! I do not want to contradict you but this is not the free trial. It is the one on the Microsoft site. You do not have to download the trial version. Simply go to Microsoft and follow the links to the free ONLINE scanner. It will evaluate your files and ask you if you wish to remove any or all of what it considers CRAP. Nothing to install and no time limits. You can access this service as often as you deem necessary.True, it is not that easy to get at but not to hard if you follow the links to the free trial. There you will find the links to the online scanner. Hope this helps.

Hey Flashorn
No harm no foul. I was in fact, just stating that most trialed registry programs will require some sort of payment for full features, and wasn't necessarily following the whole discussion flow of the forum pertaining to "their" discussion. I guess I could have been a little bit more precise with my post description.

Anyway,

Carry on....

Hey techie! Am carrying on. I was very surprised to see that Bill M$ was actually GIVING a service for free. This is why I had to mention it. How often do you get anything for FREE from Bill, and it does a good job. This might be a good starting point for people who were thinking about cleaning up their PC's but were reluctant to do so. It's very easy to do:3 options, full scan, clean-up, optimise, your choice. talk to you latter techie.

Hi Legend; and welcome. I have used Ccleaner and would rate it as an excellent program , for a free program. One of the best available. Don't forget to back up by letting the program remove and keep what is removed in case you need to reinstal. Registry Mechanic is one of the best paid for programs available. Used this for about 2 years without any problems. Also let the program keep deleted entries for you just in case you need to reinstall later. You also got some good advice on Live one care; a free program offered by MS. Do a full scan the first time you use it. This will greatly improve system performance. Had a friends computer and used this to clean up his computer. It found 835 registry entries the were obsolete and really improved performance. Always be careful when editing the registry as there are dragons there. LOL. Always backup. Good luck.

:D Hi all :

Many experienced, trained, certified "Microsoft Most Valuable Professionals" do NOT recommend

"Windows Live One Care", which was explained in my Aumha.net link I posted in my earlier Post .

To all of you who have contributed to my question, I thank you.

Nbaballer, you hit the nail on the head.

I have reviewed many of the programs available and decided to select UniBlue's Registry Booster.

It works great and I have had no problems with it and my computer runs much faster on bootup and within programs as well.

Thank you all again,

Clark
