I started with Norton SystemWorks and upgraded to Norton 360. Later, I added both Panda and Spy Sweeper.
Now Norton 360 will not load, nor will my ISP, Juno. When N360 is uninstalled all is back to normal. Also, with
Panda and Spy Sweeper installed I do not have control of msconfig in RUN. N360 was uninstalled using a
Norton/Symantec Uninstaller and then completely, freshly reinstalled directly from the Symantec site with the
same results. Does anyone know what the problem is, and is there a work-around?

I would not be running Norton 360 co-host with Panda. Last time I checked Panda was part of an AntiVirus scanning engine. That answer may resort to the reason why Norton 360 no longer works, seeing that Norton 360 is AntiVirus protection and having 2 different AntiVirus programs will heartedly make both programs create problems for themselves end resulting in system chaos.
Now before I actually finalize this, are you running Panda Antvirus or Panda Internet Security? They have more than one package of features.
Internet Security 2008
Antivirus+Firewall 2008
Antivirus 2008
ActiveScan Pro
ActiveScan
TruPrevent Technologies
If you can confirm which actual version you are running, that would be great. As far as I know, you could be running the Antivirus+Firewall 2008 along with Norton 360, and no wonder you are having problems, but you only stated you have Panda, and there's more than one Panda package, so I want some specific details to help you out.

Hi, Ron. I agree with techie4fun, you should not be running more than one Anti Virus. According to my geek friends, they tend to counter act each other and cause a hosts of problems. Their suggestion to me was: you can have as many anti-spy stuff as you want, but only one anti-virus.
When I got my laptop a few months ago, it came with Vonage and Norton pre-installed. I had the Geeks at Best Buy remove both of them! I wasn't interested in using Vonage and I hated Norton! Then, every day I would get a balloon that said "Norton Security needs to be updated" (or something to that effect) when I didn't even have Norton! Instead, I had the Geeks install Spy Sweeper and Trend MicroAnti Virus and I've been really happy with both of them.
Good luck, I hope you find a good solution to your problem. :-)

Hi RonStrong. Welcome to PCWorld. :-)
Okay, You have added some serious resource hogs as security applications. The very first thing I would do if I were you is remove all, repeat, ALL security applications at this point and start over. You are already aware that Norton must be removed by the Norton Uninstaller. You should be able to remove Panda and Spy Sweeper by the standard Add/Remove utility. Once you remove all traces of security from your computer, and verified that you have full control over your computer (Juno works, msconfig comes up, etc.), it is now time to rebuild.
Now, I would like to amend what has been said so far. You can have as many variations of security as you want, as long as you have only:
- One Firewall
- One Anti-Virus and One Anti-Spyware active at all times
In this forum, you will not find too many people who will recommend Norton. Now, I am not here to make suggestions as to which one is "better" than another. There are so many good members in here who can do that for you. What I can tell you is that Norton is a no-no. The majority of us use a tiered or layered approach to security. For example, in my first tier, I have:
- Two Personal Data Cleaners
- Four Anti-Spyware Applications
- One Firewall Application
- Two Anti-Virus Applications
- Two Registry Cleaners
- One Anti-Rootkit Application
In my second tier, I have:
- One Anti-Spyware Application
- One Anti-Rootkit Application
- One Anti-Virus Application
As a good base, I would recommend the following:
- Firewall: Zone Alarm Free
- Anti-Virus: AVG Anti-Virus Free
- Anti-Spyware: AVG-Anti-Spyware
From this, you can build any other combination you choose. There are so many good free applications. What I can suggest is look through the Privacy & Security Community and see what recommendations are made. Do not just go with what is mentioned most often and do not base your decision on just one source. Do some research and found the combination that works for you.
Now, if after all this you do not have full control of your computer, post and we can try some more avenues.

Hi Guys-
Ronstrong recently sent me a private message saying that he was unable to reply to this topic (Kinda weird, yeah?), therefore he asked me for some assistance in further helping him solve the problems. I've basically given him my 4-1-1 on what to do and how to further help his system, so I'm hoping to get him all squared away at the end.
Maybe he'll post back here... It's kinda odd for him not to be able to reply back to this topic.

Hi Techie. I received a Private Message from another member indicating that RonStrong could not reply to this Discussion as well. That is what prompted me to post in this section in the first place. If you hear back from him, can you please ask him to tell you exactly what problems he is having?
