A couple of days ago I was surfing a Yahoo Tech page. I was reading an article from one of their Tech Advisors, Christopher Null, entitled "How to Pick a Genuinely Secure Password". In this article he talks about Bruce Schneier suggestions on how to create secure passwords, etc.
Christopher Null goes on about some of the questions you should ask yourself when creating a password. And, how some people can "crack" a password in x number of minutes, etc., and how sophisticated the password crackers have gotten. Then he mentions how there are hundreds of common "root" passwords... Then there was a blue link that said: (here's a list)...
When I clicked on (here's a list) I received a page with a weird message. It reads:

"403 Forbidden

FORBIDDEN. You don't have permission to access /howto/password/common.htm on this server.

Additionally, a 403 Forbidden error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request".

Then, under a line, it finished with: "Apache/1.3.33 Server at geodsoft.com Port 80".

I was so surprised and shocked to get that message, that I printed the page before getting the heck outta there! Has anyone ever received a message like this? And if you have, what did you do? Why was I fobidden to check this list if it was mentioned in a link in a common, public page? I guess I'm still puzzled by this.

Thank you for reading my message. LOL :D !

Hi Adama. Welcome to PCWorld. :-)

This error message has nothing to do with you whatsoever. This is an error message that the webmaster of the website needs to resolve. Here is an article that addresses what a 403 Forbidden Error means. When you, the enduser, see this message, this is something that you can bring to the webmaster's attention by email, fax, or phone.

I haven't gotten the entire 403 error forbidden message but I have gotten the whole "You do not have permission to access this site" thing on many occassions.
Anyhow, I think MPH posted fair enough explanations for this issue.

:)

Hi, MPH. I checked the URL you sent me and yes, I did find useful info in there. I will email the Yahoo Webmaster and let him know about the Forbidden message I received. I'm new to computing, so it kinda scared me, you know?

I really appreciate you taking the time to read (and answer) my message, as well as your advice.

BTW if I may ask, what kind of "enterprise" is mphenterprises?

Have a great week! LOL :^0

Hi Adama. I am glad that we were able to answer your question. Believe me, I can imagine how ominous that error message appeared. If you ever have any other questions, please ask.

My business is in-home computer troubleshooting, repair, upgrade, and installation. Basically, anything that would initially force a person to bring his or her computer to a local shop or a retailer, I would do in the comfort of his or her home. I started it last year, March to be exact. I love it and I will not go back to working for anyone else if I can continue on the path that I am traveling now. Besides, I have the freedom to stay on here pretty much for as long as I want. :D

If you have any detail questions at all, please feel free to check out my profile. My website url is listed there as well as my email address. I would be happy to try and answer any question you may have.

Have a great weekend as well :D

Hi, MPH. Thanks for the reply. It's interesting to see how many people there are that work from home. And, they make it work for them!
What's even more amazing to me is to see how many people are so technically savvy. I guess what used to be Science Fiction is now the new Reality, isn't it? B-)

I wish you continued success in your career. You know what they say: Do what you love, and success will follow! ....even The Donald says it.

LOL :^0 !
