I can't believe that you're recommending that you throw away an infected flash drive. First off, if you have to, at least have the decency to try to recycle it. Second, you could boot up a live session of Ubuntu Linux and download and install AVG Free to scan and remove the virus, then reformat it to some UNIXy file system, reboot your computer, go back into Windows, and do a full reformat of the drive to decrease virus recovery chances. It wouldn't hurt to get a file-shredding utility and wipe the free space (might I recommend the inrecoverable Peter Guttman).

Unbelievable. First how do you know it is a virus? Did an antivirus say so? Did it clean it? Many problems attributed to viruses are not a virus.

Did it give you the name of the virus? Did you look it up someplace like McAfee Virus Library (free). Did it have manual removal instructions? (hint)

The last computer you had the drive in has already been exposed to the virus (all viruses get on a drive through the computer). Since it is already exposed, use that computer to clean it (clean that computer too).

DO NOT THROW THE DRIVE AWAY. Send it to me, I could use some free drives. Oh Yea, just to be safe send the computer you had it in too. In fact you might better send any server that it connected to also.

Just Unbelievable
