Installed 2nd hard drive as slave last week with your assistance, and #1; would like to know how to make the slave do most of the work, visiting websites, downloads, etc,,, and #2; is this a good idea? I heard it is best to do this and leave space on 1st hard drive, not to use it up.Is there a way to change it thru RUN>MY COMPUTER> - - - ETC...??? without changeing the hard drives themselves??? Thank you for any assistance you can give me.

Surfing, etc. would default to the drive that the OS is on. If you installed the OS on the second drive, then your cookies, temps, etc. would go there as well. Downloads are no problem, as you can have them DL into any folder on any drive you wish. Surfing doesn't really use any disk space, and you can linit the size of the cookie folder to what you want (ie. 80mb). As long as the drive that the OS is on has at least 25% free space (preferably 50%), it is maintained and defragmented regularly, then performance will not suffer.

This addresses most of the "key" issues.

I would add that you might want to store all your files on the second drive, including downloads. If you want, you can also have program installations install programs on the second drive. You will still get some portion of those installations on the primary drive as most programs have to put some files in the Windoze directory that is on the drive with the OS.

Well, downloads should be easy. Usually when you try to download a file using a browser, it will ask you where you want to save the file. Just navigate to the seconday drive in the dialog box and save them there.

Programs should also be easily...at least when you are installing them. When installing a program, you are usually asked where you want to install them (unless the program MUST be stored in a particular location...then you usually are not given and option). Again just navigate to the secondary drive in the dialog box and install them there.

As to files already created and stored in your My Document folder, you can change the location and move those files to the secondary drive if you want. If you right-click on the My Documents folder, then select Properties, a window will open up. Click on the "Move..." button in the window (for XP at least) and then select where you want your My Document folder to be located. You can select a folder on the secondary drive...and it will then move all the files to that location. And when you open up the My Documents folder, it will automatically take you there.

Moving already installed programs will generally be extremely difficult if not impossible. There might be some that you can move, but you are likely better off uninstalling them and reinstalling them on the secondary drive.
