(!) PLEASE, READ THIS WARNING: It has been called to my attention that the company featured in this post has been in a Rogue/Suspect List in the past, with a bad history of aggressive, deceptive advertising and illegal force-installs. This company was put on a 6 months probation period after which it was re-tested again. Then it was de-listed in 2006. However, please read the answers that follow this post, then you can make up your own mind as to what to do. What does your gut tell you?

-----
Well, according to an article from PC Magazine, featured in Yahoo! News yesterday (10-19), there are two companies that want to know: Is your computer possessed? Does it seem that your hard drive's haunted? They are offering ONE day of free technical support to cleanse your PCs from evil and help you get rid of zombies, botnets, viruses and other malware on Halloween.

One company is CyberDefender, an internet security company that uses client-to-client distributed network to scare off spyware, viruses, phishing and spam. The other company is Quatrro, a tech support provider company who will be offering remote scans and remote repairs. Any home or office user who calls (877) 377-3765 can have the free tech support, but only on Oct. 31, Halloween Day.

(!) According to the article, these free goodies will include anything from repairing malware damage, speeding up system performance or even making sure the competitors' security programs are working.

According to CyberDefender, tech support calls cost between $50 - $100. Giving this service away is their way to promote their new Premium Tech Support 24/7/365. Their support program is powered by Quatrro

So, there you have it! Halloween night ]:) does not have to be a scary night after all! ....bwaa haaa haaa haaa....trick or treat!...

:D Hi :

At one time "CyberDefender" was on antiSPYWARE Expert Eric Howes "Rogue/Suspect" Product

"List"; though it is not on that List presently, still Best to use a "trustworthy" program like

"SUPERAntiSpyware" from www.superantispyware.com . IF its Scan Results brings forth

questions, can ask on their Support Forums at [http://forums.superantispyware.com] .

Never heard of "Quatrro"; since they seem "connected" to "Cyberdefender", still best to use

"Trustworthy" programs. And will tell you IF their competitors program(s) are "working" !?

SpiritWind, Hi. What is this "Rogue" thing? Do you mean to say that they are not one of the good guys?

I got this info from Yahoo! News, which was reporting from PC Magazine. How can they submit a report for the public to use a service, if these people are "Rogue". I know from "24" and "Alias" that going Rogue means, they've gone on their own. But.... Bad too?

Yea, I know that my PC used to be possessed, because after I bought it, it would randomly turn itself on whenever the demon inside of it felt like it. The problem has been fixed, and it was only a few misconnections in the wiring of the system. Many a night I'd wake up from sleep to hear the cooling fans in my PC roaring oh so hideously-loud. On several occasions I'd come home from work and see that my PC had been on all day, adding even more $$$ to my power bill.. And of course after that I switched out the obnoxiously loud fans w/ an ultra-silent Asetek Liquid Cooling system. B-)

Before you bother doing anythng with CyberDefender, I'd read this thread at CastleCops:

I'll leave you up to your own conclusions.

Hi, SpiritWind. I checked the link you sent me and was flabbergasted to find soo many companies in the Rogue/Suspect List!!!!!

I also noticed that CyberDefender was de-listed way back in Aug. of 06. So maybe they've cleaned up their evil ways? for real, this time?

So, thanks for the info.
